About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Jeremy Morse, a senior nursing student from Dallas, has placed fourth in the U.S.A National Mountain Bike Championships in Mt. Snow, V.T.

Riding since age 12, Morse said the two-lap, 1,500 ft. climb, race was the most painful race he has ever completed and opened his eyes to a different level of competition.

Foundation to honor memory of teen cyclist

Texbiker.net Posted on September 3, 2007 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 3, 2007

from Fort worth Star-Telegram (full article)

By TERRY LEE GOODRICH
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

As a high school freshman, Ivan Mukasa ran to school — seven miles — with his book bag on his back.

In time, the impoverished youth from Uganda graduated to a junk bike for his treks from Euless to Birdville High School in North Richland Hills.

Then came the day some friends bought him a new bike.

“That bike meant everything to him,” said retiree Tom Hadley of Euless, who informally adopted Mukasa.

Mukasa, 18, graduated with honors this year. He earned the title of 2007 Junior Open Texas Road Race Champion. Two weeks ago, he moved to Wichita Falls to attend Midwestern State University, planning a medical career.

But on Aug. 24, he drowned in his apartment swimming pool.
