About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Polio survivor cycles to promote disabled rights

Texbiker.net Posted on April 11, 2007 by Rick AnkrumApril 11, 2007

from The Daily Texan

By Joey Castillo

When Mikail Davenport was diagnosed with polio in 1950, doctors told his parents they should institutionalize him, and that he would end up like a vegetable. Now 58 years old, Davenport spent the month of March bicycling from El Paso to Beaumont - all without the use of his legs.

State Championship Bike Race – Copperas Cove, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on April 10, 2007 by Rick AnkrumApril 10, 2007

from Killeen Daily Herald

Copperas Cove will be hosting the State Championship Bike Race in conjunction with The Racing Post, a magazine based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for bicycle enthusiasts.

The event will attract an estimated 500 cyclists, including many professionals at varying levels, Davis said. Still in the planning stages, the race will be held from June 9-10.

The bicycle course begins at the Copperas Cove Civic Center and makes a 33-mile loop to Topsey, but riders can choose from three routes measuring 30 miles, 50 miles or 118 miles, Davis said.

A similar statewide bicycle race was held in Copperas Cove in October, and the chamber is hoping the event will expand into a renowned attraction for the city.

Bike enthusiasts are encouraged to volunteer to help drive lead and trail vehicles and set up the course. Copperas Cove’s courses are known for being clean and well-marked, Davis said, but volunteers are needed to maintain the city’s reputation.

For information about chamber races or on how to volunteer, contact Ben Davis at (254) 289-6330.
