National Bike To Work Day 2007 is May 18th. This is the final day of Bike to Work Week which runs from May 14th to May 18th.

This is a fantastic chance to get in the bike commuting swing. The benefits of commuting by bike are huge. You aid in not having as much automotive congestion on the roadways and creating less pollution. It helps keep your expenses down by using less gas. Both of these help the environment. And the best benefit is the sense of accomplishment and the boost in energy once you get to work.

Please take this opportunity to leave your car at home, even if it is just for one day, and Bike To Work.

Cyclists in Suits 2007

On April 23, 2007 cyclists in Texas have a very unique opportunity to meet with our elected officials. We will be given the chance to speak with them face to face and express our concerns and hopes regarding cycling in Texas.

By a sheer show of numbers we can impress upon them the importance of our cause. They will understand that large numbers of their constituents ride and vote.

This will be a very important year for this as the safe passing bill has been reintroduced for vote. It was not voted in by only 4 votes last time it was up for consideration.

BikeDFW is organizing a bus trip to Austin on April 23, 2007 and we want all of you to come along. We will have instruction from members of BikeTexas about how to speak with officials. The trip will include some meals and the cost is $34.

Heights Holy Mackerel Race – Houston, TX

Baptist Temple Church in the Heights and the Woodlands Cycling Club are proud to present the second annual Heights Holy Mackerel Bike Race. Located in the historic Houston Heights, this fast .7-mile criterium is set out along tree-covered boulevards and eclectic storefronts near downtown Houston.

This event is sanctioned by the Texas Bicycle Racing Association and USA Cycling and is part of the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic Road Series (LAJORS). Categories will include a Junior Open Race, Women Open Race, Category 4/5 Men’s Race, Category 3/4 Men’s Race, and Men’s Pro 1/2 Race.

You can pre-register for the 2007 Heights Holy Mackerel Bike Race at bikereg.com. On race day, criterium participants can park and register at 300 West 17th Street.
