About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

High school racing heats up in Texas

Texbiker.net Posted on March 29, 2007 by Rick AnkrumMarch 29, 2007

Texas High School racing does not draw a lot of attention but that is not the case today when cyclingnews.com had a short blurb on the racing season. The mention is the last section at the bottom of the link above.

” The first-ever Texas High School Cycling League road series kicked off this spring with four events spread over two weekends. The high schoolers are getting a helping hand from Texas’ higher institutions of learning…”

Dale Robertson Proposes Adding a Race to the MS150

Texbiker.net Posted on March 29, 2007 by Rick AnkrumMarch 29, 2007

In today’s Houston Chronicle Cycling Notebook, Dale outlines how to add to the Houston-Austin MS150; have a road race.

Now I like road racing but I wonder how this would not stretch the MS150 organization’s manpower beyond their breaking point. 13,000 rider spread over 90 miles is a handful to manage, let alone a rolling enclosure of 100 to 150 racers. I think the people most likely to want to watch the race are the MS150 riders who will be occupied making it to Austin.

Give Dale your thoughts about this. His email is on the Cycling Notebook link above.

20th Annual Cross Timbers Classic Bicycle Tour at Texas Motor Speedway – Flower Mound, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on March 29, 2007 by Rick AnkrumMarch 29, 2007

Start shining your helmets, pump up your tires and save the date for the 20th Annual Cross Timbers Classic. Sponsored by the Flower Mound Rotary, the 2007 bike ride event will take place Saturday, May 19.

Riders will feel plenty of speed beneath their tires at the starting line of next year’s tour, as participants will start and finish their rides at Texas Motor Speedway. Topping off this year’s event, as a tribute to the tour’s new starting location, each route includes an exclusive opening lap around the famed Speedway track.

The Cross Timbers Classic tour includes 10-mile, 30-mile, 50-mile and 100-mile route options. Once riders have taken their opening lap around the track, they will wind their way through the beautiful North Texas countryside along designated routes based on their ride length.
