Knock Out Roses. Aftermath Of Biking In Rain.

Not in a hurry to start today’s bike ride because the temperature was in the low 60’s. While I waited I watched the Prologue of the Tour de Romandie. Yesterday’s rain brought the cooler temperatures for the next couple of days. Finished watching the bike race I got ready and rolled the Cervelo Caledonia out the driveway. As I waited for some cars to pass another car pulled up on the other side of the street. They noticed the new plants and cleaned up front flower bed. They asked me what were the tall red roses because they wanted to plant some in their backyard. I told them Knock Out roses and where I bought them. They thanked me and drove off. I pressed the start button on the Bolt computer at 11:15 AM and started the ride on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route.

By the time I finished at 1:53 PM I biked 33.47 miles. Checking SportTracks this was the ninth time biking this route. Today’s ride was the average of the other 8 rides in distance, time, but higher in effort, and average power.

The route took me to Atascocita Shores Drive at FM 1960 where I checked the construction progress. You can see that in the ride video. I also saw another cyclist in the parking lot of the church on Fairlake Lane and he is in the video. He told me his wife rides a bike just like my Cervelo. We chatted about the headwind and he told me where he rode to and back.

Weather conditions: start 69 (humidity 75%, dew point 61), mostly cloudy, wind NE 12 mph gusts 18 mph; finish 74 (humidity 66%, dew point 62), mostly cloudy, wind E 9 mph. The wind actually decreased during the ride for a change. I needed to dress warmer because of the wind and temperature: shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey.

The next championship event is the Aged Based TT Championships on May 7th but before that we have several TNR’s starting with sprint night tomorrow! Spectators are welcome and if you are racing or keen to please check out our racer guide.

Tuesday Night Racing

Sprint night is back! Riders can use existing F200 seeding times or set a new time. This should speed things up!

Gates open at 4pm, racing starts at 6:45pm. The nightly schedule will always be listed on the event in the Track Calendar.

Junior & Masters Scratch Championships

In the junior race a high pace was set during the race nullifying any chances of attacks, in the last 3 laps however racing hotted up with a few long range efforts from Dalton, Gabi, Tegan and Owen however it was Elijah who timed his move perfectly to repeat his 2021 sucess ahead of Owen, Isaiah was the 3rd rider to cross the line. Gabi managed to beat out Tegan to take the junior girls jersey.

Sunday April 24, 2022, 108 miles (174 km) – Total so far: 2,202 miles (3,544 km) Would you believe I lost my wallet again on the road today? Just kidding. Now that I have your attention, I was up early at the Riata Inn and left before sunrise with the moon shining down on me in the cool morning air but warm temperature. I was dreading once again having to start the roughly 75 mile stretch of road between Marfa and Van Horn with no services. I was prepared in terms of food and water but mentally I was calculating how many miles further I’d be if I hadn’t of dropped my wallet and had to backtrack yesterday. Oh well. Just trudge on and savor the point where you start the new piece of road. That point was outside of Valentine and as I passed through this desolate looking place I stopped at the Post office for a quick pic. This is one of 60 Bike MS rides across the country, and it’s one of the largest.

Cyclists will ride up to 180 miles over two days, departing from Houston and Austin on April 30 and crossing the all-new finish line at Kyle Field in College Station on May 1. In addition to a new finish line, cyclists will also have the option of starting in Austin near the State Capitol. Police arrest man in fatal hit-and-run near Medical Center

A 75-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run near the Medical Center that left a bicyclist dead last year.

Ramesh Patel, believed to the driver in the incident, was charged Friday with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

Police said the victim, 64-year-old Carlos Flores Gonzales, was riding a bicycle on June 4, 2021, in a crosswalk at the intersection of Huebner and Babcock roads when he was hit by a maroon Toyota Avalon. …

A Texas car customization company owner is under fire after posting a video "rolling coal" towards a cyclist near Fort Worth.

I Spun The Rain Wheel of Fortune Bike Ride

No bike race to watch this morning so I was able to start today’s bike ride at 10:23 AM, a little earlier than normal. Being Monday I chose a route riding to the north, “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch”. Before eating breakfast I read the weather email from Space City Weather describing the chance of rain this morning and this afternoon. I looked at the positive side of the rain and thought I could finish the ride before the rain arrive. I spun the rain wheel of fortune. More below and in the video on how that turned out. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike on the 4th ride on this route in 2022.

Today’s ride had the highest average speed but the shortest distance even though I changed the streets slightly. I rode on a new street in Tavola, Argosta Drive, to Roman Forest Blvd. east of my usual Tavola exit. Three rides on my Cervelo and one on my Lynskey R300 bikes.

I decided to wear some new kit items today: the Primal Team Red short sleeve jersey and Bellwether Coldflash Sun Sleeves. These would get to taste the changing weather.

Back to the weather. I thought the rain was far enough to the north to not be a problem but as you can see in the video when I neared the turn into Tavola I saw rain ahead on US59/I-69. I hoped by the time I rode to Roman Forest Blvd. it would have moved on and it did but the streets were wet. At US59 I headed south on the wet road but at the Caney Creek bridge the road dried and I thought the ride back to Kingwood would be dry. And it was until Briar Berry Lane when the rain came down and I got soaked. No place to pull into until West Hammond Drive and Timber Lane where I took refuge at a company’s front porch for about 10 minutes. The rain let up to just sprinkling so I resumed the ride on wet streets through Oakhurst, Kings Manor, and Kingwood. In the last mile I saw a dark cloud north of where I finished at 1:11 PM. The Cervelo experienced it’s first rain ride so that is out of the way. I parked the bike at the back door long enough to take a couple of things inside and came back out to wash it. In a matter of a few minutes the wind picked up and the temperature dropped about 8 degrees. As I washed the Cervelo I felt rain and hurried to rinse it off. I wiped off the excess water on the bike and cleaned the mud from my shoes. Back inside I saw the temperature down another 2 degrees. If the ride lasted any longer I would’ve got wet again and chilled. Weather conditions: start 81 (humidity 77%, dew point 73), mostly cloudy, wind DE 9 mph; finish 76 (humidity 81%, dew point 70), mostly cloudy, wind S 12 mph. Rode in the rain. Cyclists call for boycott of custom car shop after owner films himself ‘rolling coal’ at bike rider

Cyclists in north Texas have called for the boycott of a custom car shop after a truck driver, alleged to be the owner of the business, filmed himself blowing black smoke from his exhaust, known as ‘rolling coal’, at a bike rider.

Kevin Soucie, the owner of Turn 5 Fabrication, posted the video to the local Facebook group ‘McKinney Uncensored’, though it has since been removed or made private.

The footage shows the driver, who filmed the incident on his phone, saying “Oh my God, a cyclist”, before accelerating to pass and covering the rider in thick plumes of black smoke from the truck’s exhaust. …

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Harlingen Police Department responded to an auto-pedestrian crash that left one hospitalized.

On Sunday, authorities responded to an auto-pedestrian crash off Commerce Street in Harlingen.

A man riding a bicycle was hit by a vehicle, according to Harlingen PD.

Brazos Valley cyclists eagerly take on the St. Joseph Health Gran Fondo after three years of cancellations

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -Hundreds of bikers and cyclists descended on the Stella Hotel in Bryan for the annual St. Joseph Health Gran Fondo bike ride Sunday morning.

The highly anticipated event made its return after being canceled for one year due to safety concerns with weather and two years during the pandemic.

Proceeds and funds raised for the event support cancer survivors and CHI St. Joseph Health cancer services.

Participants chose to ride a 20, 40, 70, or 100-mile course through the Brazos Valley.
