Scott Way grew up on land his great-grandfather purchased in 1940, sprawled at the confluence of the Blanco River and Cypress Creek in Wimberley, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Like his father before him, he learned how to swim in the creek and spent many sweltering summer days submerged in its clean, cool water. From its source at Jacob’s Well, an artesian spring that releases thousands of gallons of water every day, Cypress Creek flows only a few miles to the Blanco. It’s all part of an interconnected network of free-flowing springs that thread through the Edwards Plateau, which contains one of the world’s most abundant artesian aquifers. The Edwards Aquifer defines life in Central Texas, supplying drinking water to …

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Mark Scotch, 66, hit “The Organ Trail” for a fourth time, this time with a 1,361-mile bike ride. He rides his bicycle to promote kidney disease awareness, living donor awareness, and post-donation functionality.
Scotch’s fourth Organ Trail began Monday, March 21 in San Diego. From there, he traveled into Los Angeles, rode east to Phoenix, Arizona onto Albuquerque, New Mexico, and arrived in Lubbock, on April 11th – three weeks after he began his marathon ride.
“The Organ Trail is all about generating awareness for the need for kidney donors, especially living kidney donors, but it’s also about showing people that even with one kidney, you can still lead a life full of activities, even if those activities are sustained and vigorous,” said Scotch.
Scotch, who is originally from Wisconsin, chose to …

Day 33 – Kerrville to Fredericksburg
Monday April 11, 2022, 31 miles (50 km) – Total so far: 1,454 miles (2,340 km)
I’m told that in celebration of the group successfully passing the half-way point on the Southern Tier, we are rewarded today in several ways. First, breakfast was served at 7:30 rather than 6:30 so those interested could get a little more sleep. 2nd, our planned start time this morning was 9:30, as much as two hours later than usual! 3rd, todays route was quite short and involved only a couple short but steep climbs. As a result, everyone was done riding, camped, showered, and fed before 12:30. Finally, since we’re camped on the outskirts of Fredericksburg at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, we will …

Day 33: Bastrop, TX to La Grange, TX
Monday April 11, 2022, 41 miles (66 km) – Total so far: 1,899 miles (3,057 km)
Today started out when I was awakened around 5 AM by the sound of torrential rain, hail and thunder. I checked the weather and it looked like a localized storm that was heading out. By the time we loaded our luggage and got ready to leave at 7:30 it had passed and the pavement was almost dry. Our whole group left together and in about 1 mile we crossed the Colorado River on a foot bridge and in about two miles we entered Bastrop State park. We had to wait for SAG driver Alli to pay the entry fee and for the next 16 miles we were first in Bastrop State Park and then Buescher Park. There were some …
