Yellow Bike rallies community support after thieves steal half their inventory

AUSTIN, Texas — A non-profit organization that helps get people on the roads is working to move forward after being burglarized earlier this month.

Thieves broke in and stole about half of Yellow Bike’s inventory, along with a cash box.

“The fragrance always remains on the hand that gives the rose, and these people here are obviously giving out roses,” said bicycle recipient Alexander Stone. …

Mud Still There! Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive

The wind was strong as I began the bike ride at 10:34 AM. From the south at 15 mph with 25 mph gusts and that was where I was headed. I chose the Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive route but altered the streets in Kingwood on the way to West Lake Houston Parkway. Then I moved to the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail from Kings Park Way to W. Lake Houston Parkway. Last Saturday when I rode the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail from W. Lake Houston Parkway to Farmingham Road a sea of mud caught me under FM1960. Today the mud was there but this time I turned around, I don’t like mud. This added to the overall distance making this one of the longer rides on this route in 2024 at 37.8 miles. The typical distance is 36.5 miles for the 11 previous rides in 2024. No power meter conundrum this time. I finished at 1:35 PM. I earned the Strava Local Legend on Kings View U (4:17).

‘For right now, it’s a little messed up’ | Cyclists worry that new construction at popular Cedar Park trail may change it forever

Some parts of the Suburban Ninja Trail System in Cedar Park are undergoing construction to make way for a new city trail that will be three miles of concrete.

CEDAR PARK, Texas — Some hikers and bicyclists in Cedar Park are worried that a popular trail system may never look the same again.

The Suburban Ninja Trail System is right by the Brushy Creek Trail and West Parmer Lane, where a 70-acre fire burned down an apartment complex last year.

Those who use Suburban Ninja say some of the seven natural trails have been cut in half or bulldozed to make way for a new trail project. …

VERNON (KFDX/KJTL) — The 28th annual Vernon Burnin’ Bike Ride is coming up in August, one week before the Hotter’N Hell Hundred. The ride is set for Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 7:30 a.m. at the Vernon College campus at 4400 College Drive in Vernon.

There are four routes available: 12, 22, 33, and 100 miles. Rest stops will be approximately every 10 miles and will be well stocked with water, ice, sports drinks, fruit and cookies.

For riders who can no longer continue the event, sag wagons will be provided.

Following registration online, participants can pick up their packets on Friday, August 17, 2024, at the King Physical Ed Center at Vernon College.

GRAHAM (KFDX/KJTL) — The Hotter’N Hell Hundred is set for Saturday, August 24, 2024, and many cyclists have already been training for months.

For area riders looking to get some extra training in, the Possum Pedal Bike Ride will be held in Graham’s famous Downtown Square at 7 a.m., right before the Food Truck Championship of Texas on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

This year’s routes will be six, 27, 42, 50, 61, and 74 miles, leading riders through southwestern Young County, where rest stops are plentiful and ride support is strong.

Red Line Parkway Initiative presents Mural Bike Tour

Red Line Parkway Initiative’s Mural Bike Tour will explore the Red Line Parkway to tour some of the artistic murals that make Downtown Austin so vibrant.

Participants can meet at MLK Jr. Station for around an 8-mile road along the Parkway to visit East Austin and Downtown art murals. The tour will end at around 1 pm at Plaza Saltillo Station. Participants can then ride their bikes or take the train from Plaza Saltillo Station back to MLK Jr. Station, or stick around to join the Taco Walk Tour starting at 1:30 pm from Plaza Saltillo Station.

All ages are welcome, though ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Explored The Highlands, Powermeter Conundrum

I rode northwest to Cumberland Blvd. on FM1314 like last week but continued on Cumberland Blvd. into The Highlands, a development under construction. The road shoulder was 3 feet of asphalt giving me room to ride and not slow traffic. Off of the road a concrete trail, I’m guessing 10 feet wide, snaked among the trees and over a lake. A portion of the trail under the road was under construction with workers present. A number of homes looked finished while others had workers. All of this on land previously forest and scattered old homes plus a former small airport I called Porter Intercontinental. I didn’t go on all of the streets but I will explore further on a future ride. I created a new route name: Community Drive – The Highlands – Oakhurst.

My Lynskey Helix bike carried me on the exploration ride starting at 10:55 AM and finishing at 2:27 PM. I altered the streets as I rode through Kingwood on the way to US59 from the usual ones when I bike to the north. I stopped at the Circle K on FM1314 at Sorters Road. I must’ve stayed too long because when the ride resumed the Quarq power meter reading was stuck on 23 watts (3 sec average). I figured the battery was done but when I got home and tested it there was plenty of life left. At the stop sign on Kellington Drive at US59 I used the SRAM app on my phone to check the power meter battery but it said to spin the crank to connect. I did that without much confidence but the power meter started sending data to the Bolt computer. Not sure what happened.
