About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

‘Cycling brought us together’: Texarkana couple gets married at the Waco Wild West Bike Race

By Cris Cordova | www.kwtx.com

A couple tied the knot right before leading Waco’s Wild West Bike Race

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A Texarkana couple was married in front of 1,800 bikers at the Waco Wild West Bike Race.

15 minutes before the race, Stanley Woods and Bonnie Webb were married at the race’s starting line in downtown Waco. They were dressed in athletic wear made to look like wedding attire.

“When you’re on a bike it’s like you get to see the world in slow motion,” Webb said.

The couple met through cycling. Webb, new to cycling at the time, attended a group ride organized by Woods. Woods said that bond is what made them decide to get married at a bike race. …

Humidity And Dew Point Drop Make Great Sunday Bike Ride On The Lynskey Helix

Texbiker.net Posted on September 8, 2024 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 8, 2024

A beautiful Sunday afternoon for a bike ride. For a change the humidity and dew point were way lower than the other days this week. The ride began at 1:30 PM on my Lynskey Helix bike. I chose the Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Kingwood route but tweaked it a little in Auburn Trails part of Oakhurst and added a trip to Brooklyn Trails on the way to Woodridge Forest to boost the mileage a little. The last time I rode this route was also on the Lynskey October 15th, 2023. I finished at 3:33 PM riding 25.5 miles closing out the week with 223.51 miles for the 5th week in a row of 200+ miles. For September now totals 235 miles, 27% of the way to my goal of 866 miles. I’m ahead of the pace but need to keep adding to the buffer.

Weather: Start 84 degrees, humidity 53%, dew point 64.6, a few clouds, wind NE 14 mph; Finish 86 degrees, humidity 51%, dew point 65.4, a few clouds, wind N 10 mph.

Wind, Sun, and Miles: Cycling on the Atascocita-Huffman-Walden Route

Texbiker.net Posted on September 7, 2024 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 7, 2024

Yesterday was a rain out as far as bike riding was concerned. Today was very different as a cool front arrived dropping the temperature for the 8:35 AM start for today’s bike ride. I rode my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike on the Atascocita – Huffman – Walden route. I hoped to see other cyclists and wasn’t disappointed when I reached Fairlake Lane and Old Atascocita Road. I did see a cyclist before that in Sherwood Trails Village in Kingwood and our paths crossed again in Bear Branch Village. At Kingwood’s Town Center the Pickle Festival was setting up with many booths. I made my way slowly through exiting on Ben’s Branch Drive. The hardest part of the ride was going east over Lake Houston into a headwind. My legs could only pedal in the 35×15 gears at 9 to 10 mph. The reward was the return west over the lake with a tailwind. When I checked the weather after the ride I saw the wind was NE at 17 mph and gusts 28 mph. I skipped the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail today to avoid the possible mud under FM1960 from the rain. When I rode up to the Pinehurst Trail Drive at FM1960 traffic light a cyclist was waiting for the light to change. We chatted while waiting and then rode together on Pinehurst Trail Drive continuing our conversation. At the stop sign I rode ahead but we rejoined on Kings River Drive. I forgot to get his name. The sun was out for the whole ride. I finished at 11:26 AM riding 35.81 miles. The week totals 198 miles and September moved to 210.28 as I work to the 866 mile goal.

Weather: Start 73 degrees, humidity 80%, dew point 66.8, a few clouds, wind N 13 mph; Finish 81 degrees, humidity 69%, dew point 69.8, a few clouds, wind NE 17 mph gusts 28 mph.
