About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Specialized opens pick-up and delivery hub in Austin, plans company store

www.bicycleretailer.com

PARK CITY, Utah (BRAIN) — Months after Trek bought Specialized’s largest dealer in the Austin, Texas, market, Specialized has opened a company-owned operation in the city. Specialized Austin provides virtual consultations and home delivery of web-ordered bikes and equipment. The company plans to have a full retail store in Austin by the end of the year, several sources tell BRAIN.

Michael Browne, Specialized’s USA Marketing Director, said the company would have no comment on its Austin retail plans. He previously declined to comment on Specialized’s ownership of Oro Valley Bicycles, near Tucson.

Last December, Trek bought Austin’s Bicycle Sport Shop, a five-store operation that was one of …

Cove House holds annual bike ride fundraiser

By John Clark | kdhnews.com

Riding buddies Dwayne Facemire and Owen Sutton said they were not sure what to expect from last Saturday’s Cove House Classic Bike Tour, but whatever the outcome, they planned on having a good time.

“Not sure how hilly it’s going to be, but we’ll see,” said Facemire, a 60-year-old resident of Burnet participating for the first time in the Cove House ride, as the sun rose over First Baptist Church parking lot along Avenue B. “Owen and I ride 43 miles every Wednesday and we do spin classes. We used to do the (Texas) MS 150 a lot when I was in the Houston area, but that’s about it. …

August Rains Of Summer Drench Green Wichita Falls Ahead Of Hotter’N Hell 100

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

What you are looking at above is my windshield wipers wiping rain off my windshield, slapping time to the tunes on the radio.

I did not know rain and thunder was on today’s weather menu til drops began dripping and thunder began thundering a couple hours after the sun began its daily illumination duty.

Being in desperate need of new reading material I put on long pants for the first time in months and bravely pushed my motorized means of motion through the torrential downpour to downtown Wichita Falls, to the library.

There was a good turn out for the ride. I took pictures of the line up, and of course one of Christine. But it was way into the ride that I discovered that one of my camera’s latches was loose and I hadn’t been taking any pictures.

A Price To Pay For That Hour

Texbiker.net Posted on August 17, 2021 by Rick AnkrumAugust 17, 2021

There was a price for starting today’s bike ride at 10:04 AM, an hour later than yesterday. I rode away on my Canyon Endurace bike under a partly cloudy sky and 87 degrees. I returned to ride a route variation I haven’t done since 8/9/2019, “Fairlake Lane – May Center – Smith Road”. For some reason during that time period I didn’t ride the Fairlake Lane – Old Atascocita Road – FM 2100 loop but I added them back into today’s bike ride. With these streets the distance bumped up to 42.34 miles, a couple miles longer than when I didn’t include them.

The partly cloudy sky began to change to mostly cloudy with darker clouds to the south. I thought the dark clouds were far enough south to not be a threat but as I approached FM 2100 on Old Atascocita Road rain drops started. They stayed with me as I made the left turn onto FM 2100 and all the way to the railroad tracks at FM 1960. Riding east on FM 1960 the rain looked like it was going to leave me alone but I was deluded. The rain returned and maybe with sleet as it stung when it hit my arms. The temperature dropped accentuating the cool rain. It was too heavy which was good since there was no place to shelter. At the Liberty county line the rain increased and I made the u-turn sooner than usual. I wondered if I had started at 9:04 AM like yesterday if I would’ve beat the rain. That was the price for the hour delay.

I stuck to my route plan and the roads started to turn dry as I rode passed Hargrave High School on the way to May Community Center. A few rain drops hit me as I rode west on Wolf Road. They gave up about halfway to FM 2100. From that point all the way back into Kingwood the roads were dry. In Kingwood I saw signs of rain but the streets were mostly dry.

Bike rides into Liberty County lately have caught me in rain. Maybe I need to pack a rain jacket on my next ride there.

BEING PRO: JUSTIN MCQUERRY

By David Kennedy | roadbikeaction.com

Team: Team Skyline Age: 25 Hometown: Austin, Texas Can you share your journey to becoming a pro?

I’ve been riding bikes my entire life, but I didn’t really take it seriously until I was 13 or 14. I started riding mountain bikes when I was young, but a crash and torn rotator cuff when I was 13 helped me switch over to the less-jarring road bikes. I did my first road races later that year and haven’t looked back since. I did a bunch of junior racing, a few stints in Europe and then got picked up by the Team Novo Nordisk development program when I aged into the U23 ranks. I wasn’t quite ready to get picked up by a pro team as I aged out of the Devo program, but after a year on an elite team here in Texas, the newly licensed pro squad, Team Skyline, offered me a spot, and I’m now on my third year. How did the team transition their 2020 racing schedule with the lack of outdoor events? What are Team Skyline’s goals for 2021? …

New Shorts, New Ride Route, Not As Early As I Planned

Texbiker.net Posted on August 16, 2021 by Rick AnkrumAugust 16, 2021

I tried to get today’s bike ride started before 9 AM but little things got in the way. Thinking of how to add some variety to today’s route I changed the streets to ride back into Kingwood. I rode my “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch” route but returned to Kingwood through Forest Cove renaming the route to “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch – Forest Cove”. As far as I can find this is the first time to ride this combination of roads. I wasn’t sure how long the bike ride would be guessing 41 to 45 miles, it came in at 42.59 miles. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike with wheels down at 9:04 AM and finishing at 12:14 PM. Again I didn’t watch stage 3 of the Vuelta a España before starting the bike ride to help with starting earlier. My plan was to watch when I got home but during the bike ride I got a text message from my ISP (SuddenLink) alerting me that the internet was out.

The route through Forest Cove is the same as my last couple of returns from biking the Spring Creek Greenway. I’m starting to figure out most of the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway turns and streets connections. Another route variation was riding north on Loop 494 from Porter to New Caney. Usually I cut over to Loop 494 on Community Drive.

I added a new pair of Primal Prisma Obsidian bike shorts to my fleet of bike shorts on today’s bike ride. Now all of my biking shorts are Primal Prisma with various colors. I like the fit and ride comfort better than the Bellwether Endurance Gel shorts I used to wear.

Light wind during the bike ride allowed me to not battle a headwind riding to Roman Forest and the return to Kingwood. Weather conditions: start 82 (76% humidity, 73.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NW 4 mph; finish 87 (63% humidity, 72.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. Starting at 9:04 AM put me miles along before the temperature start elevating. No rest stop today though I put a granola bar and cereal bar in my CamelBak pouch.

According to Strava I achieved a new top result.
