I should have suspected something at the beginning of the ride when D.T. (Herd) said the ride was flat all the way. I rode this event before but my memory failed me. The last 2+ miles included the climb up Keith Hill with inclines of 12%. I retreated from the front group to 141st when I finished after 23.99 miles.
I live streamed the ride at Twitch.TV/Texbiker for those who wanted to watch me suffer up the mountain to the finish.
As usual at the start the lead group got away from me so I raced to catch up from 298th out of 372 to at one point 3rd which didn’t last that long. With the fence 20 seconds in front of the ride leader it is easy to cross through the fence when you are in the front 20 or below. After that I slowed enough to be in the top 50 most of the time until Keith’s Hill attacked my smart trainer and the legs bogged down.
While the weather outside was within my riding zone I rode in Zwift due to errands and time commitments. The ride started at 12:00 PM and lasted 1:19:43. Strava had me down for at least 3 personal records while Zwift didn’t show any. No wonder with the 12% climbs near the end of the ride.
Tomorrow looks like outdoor biking is possible if the 50% chance of rain stays away. Temperature should be in the mid 70’s.

The popularity of bike-share systems has grown in popularity thanks to the younger, more environmentally conscious generation. While they have garnered considerable attention in cities from Paris to Washington, D.C., their promise of urban transformation is far from being fully realized.
New research in the INFORMS journal Management Science found a key reason is that while companies have focused on bike design and technology aspects, there has been minimal research done on …

When I first started road cycling, I really didn’t know where to start. Along the way I’ve made friends and tonight, those friends helped me start our @bikemcallen beginners ride. Nice little turnout for our 1st group. pic.twitter.com/VYyAqrjZ2n
I love that we can all ride together just about anywhere. *ALMOST* all of us. Before we left the 2 yr old asked, "Grammy, do you have a bike?" On the trail to the Walnut Creek Pump Track. pic.twitter.com/9bxZLjPk6Q

Choosing the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route I started at 11:49 AM under partly cloudy skies and 73 degrees. I wore shorts, thermal long sleeve jersey, and jacket. This kept me comfortable most of the bike ride except for a few times when I rode in the shade for long time.
The ride to SH 242 enjoyed a 9 mph tailwind but I knew at the SH 242 turn around the ride back to Kingwood required more effort due to the headwind. Sometimes the headwind isn’t that bad but today it seemed stronger than the 9 mph the weather app reported when I finished at 2:46 PM.
I biked 37.24 miles putting January’s total 164.58 miles, 103.9 miles on the road and 60.7 miles in Zwift. I thought it would be reversed but the weather enabled me to ride more miles outdoors in fewer rides than I Zwifted indoors. I am ahead of schedule to reach my January goals but behind on my YTD road miles; 35% of my 300 mile road January goal and 61% of my 100 mile virtual biking January goal.
School did not resume today like I thought it would. This allowed children to be outside and some of them rode bikes, scooters, and electric replica cars.
Due to other commitments and time limits Tuesday will be a Zwifting day no matter what the weather does.
No, those are not wild mustangs you are looking at here, frolicking across the Oklahoma prairie, celebrating the arrival of the new iteration of the Roaring 20s.
These are tame mustangs, frolicking slightly south of Oklahoma, in a pond on the MSU (Midwestern State University) campus.
As San Antonio’s leaders work to find new funding for VIA Metropolitan Transit, reduce carbon emissions, and make city streets safer for non-vehicle traffic, it’s important not to lose the most successful mobility development of the past decade: the arrival of San Antonio Bike Share in 2011.
It would be a tragic and embarrassing setback for San Antonio to lose the program after nearly nine years, even as elected officials focus on the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, SA Connect, and a November ballot initiative seeking to use a one-eighth cent sales tax to …
