About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

"Ms 150" update

by: Tanstaafl | www.bikeforums.net

Here are the Day Two routes from La Grange to College Station. The routes are split at the start for about the first 20 miles. This is done to help spread the riders out. Putting all 8000+ riders on the same road at once would not be a good idea. Spacing the waves far enough apart to keep it safe would take way too long, so there will be two routes at the beginning. The Day Two routes come together at Carmine.

Over The River, Lake And Through The Woods Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on October 3, 2019 by Rick AnkrumOctober 3, 2019

The last time I rode the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route was August 13th before I acquired the GoPro camera. I biked that route today and some of the video shows what the Atascocita South looks like. I started at 10:38 AM, a little later than I wanted because the Wahoo Elemnt computer wanted to install new firmware which takes several minutes. That did not delay the 1:24 PM finish though.

I biked 34.33 miles. The week now totals 146.91 miles and the month stands at 101.75 miles, 15% of the way to the 700 mile goal. Year to date comes in at 6,403 miles, 397 miles away from my goal.

For variety I registered for the Spirit Ride in Livingston, TX which takes place on Saturday. I plan on biking the 44 mile route. This will be the third time riding this event. It used to be in November when the weather held me back but last year they moved to the first Saturday in October and the weather no longer gets cold or wet as often. The weather looks sunny and maybe 90 degrees or higher. The GoPro camera will also travel the road with me.

Weather while I biked today: start 88 (73% humidity, 78.5 dew point), aa few clouds, wind NE 5 mph. Finish 91 (62% humidity, 76.0 dew point), partly cloudy, wind E 8 mph. This might be the last week of 90+ degrees and I want to take advantage of it.

Yesterday I hurried home from the bike ride and rushed off to run an errand at the Social Security office. I thought I got there in time but found out they close at noon on Wednesday. Back to there today and I accomplished what I needed to do.

Friday weather forecast calls for bike riding.

Separated Bike Track Nears Completion in South Texas Medical Center

Iris Dimmick | therivardreport.com

The commute to work or doctor appointments on a central section of Floyd Curl Drive in the South Texas Medical Center is a lot more “green” these days as construction nears completion on separated, raised bicycle tracks and new sidewalks.

Finding cyclists and pedestrians in the area, however, proved hard to do Tuesday morning, but that’s something that officials hope the new 1.7 mile stretch of roadway designed for …

Bike Ride to Tavola

Texbiker.net Posted on October 2, 2019 by Rick AnkrumOctober 2, 2019

Today’s bike ride went to the north on what I label the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. I rolled out the driveway at 10:27 AM and finished at 1:14 PM. I tried to set a good pace because I needed to get back home to run an errand and I think I made the time limit I set. I biked 34.2 miles putting the week at 112.58 miles and October at 67.42 miles, about 10% of my goal for October.

Weather during the bike ride: start 88 (75% humidity, 79.1 dew point), a few clouds, wind E 6 mph. Finish 90 (65% humidity, 77.1 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SE 8 mph. I noticed the wind cooling effect as I rode making me think of fall or early spring. The arm sleeves felt just right. The “cool front” still appears in the weather discussion for late Monday or Tuesday. Until then I like the late summer heat.

Some physical data points:

  • average heart rate – 122 bps (70%)
  • max heart rate – 146 bps (83%)
  • average power output – 96 watts (consistent with my usual efforts)
  • max power output – 370 watts

The GoPro hook and loop mount continues to perform quietly compared to the previous mount that had a lot of movement and noise. Each time I ride over an expansion joint in the road it sounds like I clip into my pedals. No flashing constable lights in today’s video, just streets and greenery.

Thursday’s weather repeats today and I plan on riding.
