Lots of sun to start March bike rides. It was a little cooler than I prefer and I delayed the start until 12:25 PM to get a couple more degrees of warmth. Riding my Cervelo Caledonia around Kingwood, over to the US59 northbound frontage road and back through Brooklyn Trails was a great start towards my 680 road mile goal for March. As I made my way into Woodridge Forest I heard a bunch of sirens and rounding a corner a big plume of smoke rose in the southern sky. It slowly thinned out. When I crossed over Northpark Drive looking west the traffic was stopped around Russell Palmer Drive with fire equipment blocking the street. The smoke was almost gone. At the start I guessed the ride would be 20 miles long and turned out to be 20.34 miles. I set a new Strava PR on Kris Spraggins Memorial Route (2:03). Weather: Start 67 degrees, humidity 60%, dew point 52.7, mostly cloudy, wind SE 4 mph; Finish 72 degrees, humidity 54%, dew point 54.7, partly cloudy, wind SW 4 mph.
Lately the audio on the ride videos has been bad. I looked at some potential causes and narrowed it to the cable connecting the wireless Rode mic to the GoPro camera media mod. I replaced the cable for today’s ride and the audio is back to normal. The damaged cable connector photos below. I think the cable damage happened during a ride when I dropped the GoPro.
Several kindergarteners at Dillow Elementary School in Fort Worth school are getting the opportunity to experience the joy of two wheels. On Thursday morning, they were surprised with new bikes as part of an effort to implement the “All Kids Bike” riding program.
Well that was a memorable ride! (Cold, walking thru a water crossing in freezing cold water, legs were not fully recovered from Saturday’s 138 mile ride so I cut my route short from 100 down to 72, power meter and cadence was not reading on my head unit for the 1st 40 plus miles)

After spending almost a week in Harlingen I drove home yesterday to a cool front passing through. It was 49 degrees when I got up and didn’t warm up beyond 54 degrees when I started my Zwift ride. Riding around Watopia proper including downtown Watopia, Fuego Flats, the Italian Villas, the Volcano, and the Fishing Village. Lead-in is 1.5 miles and 19 feet elevation gain. Full route is 17.3 miles and 331 feet climbing. A Leap Year ride. Below is a history of my previous rides on this route. Today was one of the faster rides.
I wrapped up February biking with 728.88 miles, 533.7 road miles and 195.18 Zwift miles. I exceeded my 445 road mile goal and made up 88.7 miles that I was short on my January goal.

Rentable bike share stations reopened across campus the week of Feb. 12 after a temporary suspension in December 2022. The stations were reopened through a partnership between Rice’s Campus Services and Sustainability division and Houston Bike Share.
Houston BCycle, run by the nonprofit Houston Bike Share, is reopening closed stations after Houston city officials approved $500,000 to keep the network operational. The station suspensions came from a decision to cut costs to keep the network running.
Amarillo, Texas is full of great local restaurants. Some are fancy while others are around for the ambiance and the greasy food that makes you feel good. Unfortunately, a negative review can hurt a local business especially when the business didn’t do anything wrong.
A Yelp review was recently shared on AMARILLO RESTAURANT REVIEWS… AT YOUR OWN RISK.

The Marshall Police Department is expanding its coverage of the city in new ways with the addition of three new uniformed bicycle patrol officers to its department.
The officers are not new hires, but rather MPD officers who have trained for bicycle patrol and are officially starting to patrol the streets of Marshall in their newest capacity. Officers include Investigator Washington, Sgt. Spencer and Lt. Phillips.
Along with the three new bicycle patrol officers, Police Chief Cliff Carruth said that throughout the last year the …
