About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Devil Cats fly, bike during annual 100-mile ride

By Debbie Gildea | www.340ftg.afrc.af.mil

JOINT-BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – Riding a bicycle for a hundred miles through the inferno that is summer in Texas sounds like fun, right? For some people at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, it’s a great way to spend a weekend (at least once a year).

Included among the 14,000 people who gathered from every corner of the country to ride in the 2019 Hotter ‘N Hell 100 (HH100 for cyclists in the know) bike ride Aug. 22-25 were a handful of 97th Flying Training Squadron "Devil Cats," as well as …

I Miss My Wife Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on September 5, 2019 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 5, 2019

After taking 2 weeks off I got back on the Canyon Endurace CF SLX to ride the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route for 33.28 miles. During the break I was with my wife Hazel Marie for her last days in her fight with breast cancer. She fought the cancer for over 16 years but on September 3rd at 2:59 AM she died to enter the Church Triumphant with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I miss her greatly after 43 years of marriage. No more will I be able to answer her question when I get ready to bike, “Where are you going today?” She always wanted to know in case anything happened.

Our last road trip was in February to Harlingen for the Jalapeno 100 bike ride. After I finished the ride we went out to eat and afterwards she got very sick, throwing up for almost 2 days. I felt so bad that we went there and she got so sick. My trips to bike rides will be alone now.

Today’s ride started at 10:33 AM after I watched stage 12 of Vuelta a Espana. The weather still was warming up to the projected 100 degrees which I avoided when I finished at 1:15 PM. But it was on the way up. Weather during the bike ride: start 92 (57% humidity, 74.6 dew point), a few clouds, wind calm. Finish 98 (39% humidity, 68.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SE 7 mph. With low humidity the wind didn’t feel so hot but whenever I stopped I could feel the heat.

I stopped at the Huffman Chevron to refill my water bottle and to return a phone call. The shade felt good and the ice water helped me get ready for the 11 miles left.

Not much different during my absence along the route. The video below shows clips from the ride and maybe conveys the heat and dryness.

My goal for September is 700 miles but with the days off it may be difficult to ride that much. The rain will not be a problem for the next week or so.

Rotzlers Sports | www.facebook.com

Tour de Gruene Tours and Time Trials will not be held in 2019. We have enjoyed a long legacy of hosting the event since 1984 and contributing to many local charities, but the event has grown larger than ever anticipated and needs an organization to run the event with the same dedication and strong work ethic as our family and friends! We would be open to offering support, expertise, and services to the entity or non-profit who has the energy and manpower to assume the responsibilities and demands of hosting a quality cycling event. 14 New Mountain Bike Trail Openings – September 2019

By Jeff Barber | www.singletracks.com

August 2019 was a huge month for mountain bike trail openings. From new connector trails within larger, established trail systems, to full-on, brand new bike parks, there’s more singletrack for mountain bikers to ride than ever before. Here are the trail openings we tracked last month. …

Recluse and Tarantula trails (Burnet, Texas): Spider Mountain, the first and still only lift-served mountain bike park in Texas, opened earlier this year and since then it’s been getting rave reviews. On August 3, the park opened two new trails called Recluse and Tarantula, both names in keeping with the Spider theme. …

Anthony Wayne Williams: Update on Austin Bicyclist 2019 Death #3

A DUDE ABIKES | adudeabikes.com

The other day I wrote about the third bicyclist fatality in Austin, Texas this year. News reports finally shared his name, Anthony Wayne Williams.

A Preventable Tragedy It’s tragic he died, but it’s also hard to hear that he ran the red light and crossed a very busy and dangerous intersection where he got hit. It was broad daylight, too, at 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon. The driver honked and then stopped and so most likely won’t be charged. Anthony succumbed to his …
