About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Around Kingwood Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 17, 2019 by Rick AnkrumAugust 17, 2019

My schedule today overrode my usual bike ride time so I left at 12:09 PM and rode the “Kingwood Streets”. I biked 21.37 miles and the week’s total was 204.43 miles marking the 14th week in a row of 200+ miles. August now stands at 516.58 miles, 65% of the way to my goal. I finished at 1:54 PM in time to see all of the women who were at my wife’s birthday party.

Weather during the bike ride: start 98 (54% humidity, 78.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SW 8 mph. Finish 96 (52% humidity, 75.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind W 9 mph. As I got near the end of the ride the sky had some dark clouds and a few rain drops fell after I went inside.

Some of what I saw during the bike ride.

The people were out in Town Center Park today as you can see in the video.

Sunday is a rest day.

From pros to first-timers, grand plans for Houston’s new bike park

Melanie Hauser | www.houstonchronicle.com

He was the only one in the group of fifth graders who didn’t know how to ride a bike. And he was afraid to even try.

While everyone else was pedaling around the gym, this youngster was trying to decide if he had it in him to even get on a push bike — one without pedals. And even if he did, that would be embarrassing. Those bikes were for the little kids. Not for a fifth grader.

A little extra encouragement from a …

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) – The application is being reviewed for Wichita Falls to be declared a bicycle-friendly community.

Now it’s up to riders in Wichita Falls and those visiting to help decide if the city deserves it.

Avoiding Much Needed Rain Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 16, 2019 by Rick AnkrumAugust 16, 2019

I almost made a mistake biking to the north but before I put on my gloves and helmet I checked the weather radar and saw a patch of rain where my planned route would take me. So I switched to the south and rode the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. I wanted to ride enough miles to position Saturday’s ride could get me over the 200 mile point for the week. Biking 34.76 miles today did that putting the week’s total at 183.05 miles. Due to a morning conflict I can’t ride the typical 33 miles on Saturday but 20 miles is doable. August now totals 495.2 miles, 62% of my goal. Year to date I am at 5,542 miles.

The ride began at 11:16 AM but the weather wasn’t as hot as the last several days thanks to an early morning rain. Weather during the bike ride: start 89 (74% humidity, 80.0 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 6 mph. Finish 91 (68% humidity, 79.1 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NE 5 mph. The humidity was higher than the other days partly offsetting the lower temperatures.

No video today because I didn’t see anything of interest.

Only one water bottle refill today at the Huffman Chevron where I took a 10 minute break in the shade drinking ice water before finishing the ride about 11 miles later at 2:09 PM
