Texas4000 from Austin to Anchorage – biking on a mission

When University of Texas student Annie Velasco found an opportunity to ride her bike all the way from Austin to Alaska in the Texas4000 to raise awareness for cancer, she took it!
Annie’s father, Oscar Velasco, was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, and recently his health took a turn for the worse. It was beginning to look like her father would not get to witness Annie’s crossing the finish line in his honor.
Velasco and his family have lived in Kingwood for 15 years, where he worked as a service manager for a medical equipment company. His disease has worsened over time and, in 2016, the family learned that despite being in constant treatments, cancer had spread to his brain and bones. …
