Visiting France on today’s Zwift ride. The last time I rode the R.G.V. route was December 23rd, 2022. That time was in an event. Today is just me and whoever is riding there. A high-speed sprinter’s course (not sure I’ll be sprinting that much) that traverses the flatter roads of the French countryside. There are 3 sprints over the 15.5 miles plus the Aqueduc KOM about halfway through the ride. The KOM averages 5%. Overall there is 437 feet of climbing. The route description was a little misleading for the France R.G.V route. I expected most of the climbing on the Aqueduc KOM but the climbing up to that point didn’t come near half of the 437 feet total for the ride. There were a number of smaller climbs after that to make up the difference waiting for my legs to tackle. Strava recognized one PR 2nd fastest time on Les Intestins – Inbound (6:37) while Zwift recorded four in the last 90 days: Marina Sprint Reverse, Pave Sprint Reverse, Aqueduc KOM Reverse, and Marina Sprint Reverse.

A shared bicycle and pedestrian path on Ross Avenue will connect Lower Greenville to the Arts District.
In Dallas, where drivers zoom past at breakneck speeds and car accidents happen every day, getting around on a bicycle or on foot often feels unsafe. We have an extensive trail network and good infrastructure for recreational cycling. But apart from a few shared lanes with wearing paint and treacherous potholes, the city lacks safe and well-connected cycling infrastructure on its streets.
It’s exciting that a project to make Ross Avenue more welcoming to cyclists and pedestrians is moving forward. The project involves a nearly two-mile stretch of Ross from Lower Greenville to the Arts District under Interstate 345. One out of Ross’ five lanes will be converted into a …

Day 16:Uvalde to Hondo, TX: Hwy 90 gets busy and the head cold from hell in God’s country
Saturday January 27, 2024, 43 miles (69 km) – Total so far: 573 miles (922 km)
Glad we stayed in Uvalde. Erik slept well but his cough and mucus is now all in his head. We had two choices today. 40 or so to Hondo or 57 to Castroville. It all really depended on three things
Strong winds from the north = terrible crosswinds.
and
Erik’s well being
and
Will my tire hold?
The tire was the first issue. Straight out of town. Sealant everywhere. Erik researched using …
My kind of ride, Watopia’s Coast Crusher. Starting out with 3.4 miles mostly downhill followed by rolling hills for the rest of the 26.4 miles. There is a short climb at 4.44 miles. The lead-in covers 5.1 miles with 117 feet elevation gain. The total elevation gain is 686 feet. Crush the sprints along this flat route through diverse coasts of Watopia. Seven sprints make for a lively ride. No KOM’s. The route follows a lot of the Big Ring. Coast Crusher goes both directions. It’s been 2 months since my last ride on this route. Today’s Strava results: PR on Coast Crusher (1:16:18), 3rd fastest time on Jungle CCW Descent (4:51), and 3rd fastest time on Woodland Sprint (44s).

Two women recently recorded a video of wild hogs running out of the woods while biking on a paved trail. According to a social media post, the two people were cycling in Austin, Texas, when a pack of the animals came sprinting towards them.
One of the women shared the clip with KXAN, a local NBC affiliate in the area. They told the news station there were somewhere between 15 and 20 hogs. When they first spotted them, the two tried to ride faster to avoid the herd, but the animals quickly caught up. They say they’ve seen wild hogs in the area before but never this close. …
Luck has not been on my side lately… I guess it’s time for another trip to the bike shop! Something about riding in the winter has me breaking another part of my bike every time i ride
Day 15:Ft. Clark Springs to Uvalde: Detour from the Southern Tier temporarily
Friday January 26, 2024, 43 miles (69 km) – Total so far: 530 miles (853 km)
So we are going off course and have decided to go towards San Antonio and will rejoin the Southern Tier in Austin next week.
Two big factors, 1. We want to see San Antonio 2. The Texas Hill Country is expensive and it’s an odd time to go through it.
Why odd? Well, it’s winter. The appeal of the Hill Country is the green, the wildflowers, the river. Not happening right now. And expensive because the Warm Showers hosts aren’t responsive and the camping is even pricey. And the lodging is ridiculous.
