It’s expected to reach 101 degrees, but Sunday’s temperature won’t deter bicycle enthusiasts from riding up to 100 miles to help fight hunger in the Concho Valley.

As of Friday morning, 30 people had registered for the annual Biscuits & Gravy Rotary Ride for Hunger, said Margaret Charlesworth, ride director. More will register today and Sunday morning before the race.

…”Everybody rides across the (O.C. Fisher) dam,” she said. “Isn’t that just a gorgeous sight? People from out of town just can’t believe the spectacular scenery that we’ve got here. … They get up to top of the hill and they see miles and miles of Texas. It’s just like the commercial.”

Competitive cyclist and runner Bill Cullins said that goal is to get San Angelo healthy and feeling better.

“San Angelo is becoming a more active and fit community,” he said.

The San Angelo Bicycle Association worked with the San Angelo Road Lizards running club - the groups’ memberships tend to overlap - to include Run in the Sun, an 8k foot race, in addition to bike races Crit on the Concho and Tour de Burma.
