NICA High School Cycling News Round-up – November 28, 2013
By: Paul Skilbeck            www.cyclingnews.com
It is never quiet in the NICA community. With spring and fall season leagues, activities take place 12 months a year. With the fall leagues just having concluded, spring season leagues in NorCal, SoCal, New York and Texas are busy with recruitment, which often has the effect of converting non-cycling families into cycling families. As of December 1, student athletes will start getting into the rhythm of skill acquisition and fitness training, so if not already prepared they will be ready to start racing come spring.

Activity has also been focused on NICA’s own version of the Academy Awards. Called simply “The NICA Awards”, this is a way to acknowledge and…

TRAILS: THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN DALLAS
By Rick Loessberg, Director of Planning & Development, Dallas County, Texas

The American Airlines Center is at the southern end of the Katy Trail

If you ask people want they first think of when you mention “Dallas,” most will probably say football (the Cowboys), a television show from the 1980s, or traffic. Chances that someone would respond with that they think of Dallas as being a place where people can use a trail to get to work or to go to a restaurant would probably only rank ahead of the response that associates Dallas with alpine skiing.

However, because of the work and coordination of local cities and counties, it is perhaps surprising to…

Laredo Scholastic Cycling Team Contact Info
by andrew armstrong            tmbra.org
Hello,
The Texas H.S. Cycling League is currently working with a teacher who coaches a mountain bike team at a school near Brownsville. We want to try to get in touch with some of the other scholastic cycling teams in the larger region. Our hope is that a mini-series of friendly competitions can be set-up with one race each in the Brownsville, Laredo, and Corpus Christi areas.
We currently do not have a way to get in touch with the existing Laredo team so I’m hoping that someone here might have that information.
We have one contact we are working with in Corpus Christi but could use more so let us know if interested.
If interested in helping with this or being part of it….or if you have contact information for the Laredo Scholastic team then please send an e-mail to Andrew at texashighschoolcycling@gmail.com
