3000 Surpassed – July 25th Bike Ride By Rick Ankrum, on July 25, 2010, 7:48 pm I made the 3,000 mile mark for the year. This is always a major mental milestone for me. Lately I have been over 5,000 annually so with July almost over and this level accomplished the other 2,000+ miles looks doable. I still have a c=good chance to make my July goal of 3,100 miles for the year.
Today’s ride was a little tougher after yesterday’s 61 miles. The muscles were sore and I wasn’t sure they would loosen up but after a few miles I forgot about the soreness. The weather was cooperative after last evening’s surprise storm. The temperature was 92 degrees, calm wind and clear blue skies. Humidity was 50%. The heat did not seem as intense as yesterday. This did not lessen the amount of perspiration though. How does a person’s head produce so much water? No other riders were spotted.
Today’s ride statistics:
- miles = 24.39
- riding time = 1:38:43
- average pace = 4:03 min/mile
- average speed = 14.8 mph
- max speed = 22.4 mph
- average cadence = 78.4 rpm
- max cadence = 106 rpm
- climb 155 ft., descend 156 ft., max elevation 108 ft.
- July miles 441.90
- YTD miles 3008.55

About Texbiker.net Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.
My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.
Thanks to my wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.
In 1999 Texbiker.net was born to help my fellow bikers have ready access to all of the information about the Texas bicycling scene.
