Ham, cabbage and black eye peas – January 1st Bike Ride
Ham, cabbage and black eye peas are the tradition for the first day of the year and I added a bike ride for good measure. The clear skies and 62 degrees called real loud. The wind at 15 mph made the 62 degrees seem cooler than it was. I wanted to get a good start to the year. Tomorrow the temperature is not supposed to make it to 60 degrees so this looked like the best chance to ride. A number of walkers and joggers were on the trails. The Motobcane 700HT MTB was a good ride in the dirt section even though it was still soft from the rain on Thursday. This dirt section borders the drainage bayou between the two main east-west streets in Kingwood.
This year’s goal is 5200 miles. I expect this to be reachable since I am retiring at the end of July. I will have to caution myself though against the retirement exercise make up syndrome I have mentioned several times here. This is when a person retires and then tires to make up for not exercising as much as they wanted to when they worked.
The monthly and year to date mileage number is easy today: 14.42.
