Battling a 20 MPH North Wind – January 1st Bike Ride
I started the first bike ride of 2012 battling a 20 mph north wind and 67 degree temperature. This was very different from the 72 degrees and light southerly breeze from yesterday. A cold front is supposed to arrive tonight so I wanted to get the initial bike ride for 2012 in the book because tomorrow will probably not be warm enough. The blue sky was nice to look at after the overcast sky from the last two days. The wind required extra effort from my mountain bike pedaling but I was able to call forth the energy to make it happen.
There were a number of people and families out walking, jogging and biking. The trails were not too congested and we all shared the space. My first ride in 2011 was on January 1st as well but the next ride was not until January the 6th. I hope to get ride two in with less of a delay. The 16.62 miles today was a good start with last year’s initial ride was 14.42 miles. For one day the biking status is all the same. My average speed was down a little to 11.9 mph, max speed was 21.3 mph and average cadence was 76.7 RPM.
