Short Dog Chase
After getting soaked on yesterday’s ride today was the opposite. Scattered clouds, 81 degrees (91% humidity) and 7 mph breeze waited for me out on the north route New Caney – Gene Campbell Road. I left home at 9:59 wanting to be sure to beat rain that showed in the forecast. I did that getting home at 12:56. It was 91 degrees, 61% humidity and calm wind.
I took Adams Street out of Kingwood after riding on a few streets to get there. After riding onto Adams Street I went about 3/10’s of a mile and a dog ran out of a yard on my left. The chase didn’t last but 3 or 4 seconds when he gave up. There was a woman walking in the driveway close to where the dog came from but she didn’t say anything to the dog or me.
With almost no wind I was able to make good time over the 36.39 mile long route averaging 16.0 mph. I did not see any other bikers until the last mile when two crossed the street I was on. They were riding the Kingwood greenbelt trail.
A stop at the Stripes station on FM1314 at Valley Ranch Parkway gave me time to cool down, eat a snack and drink some Gatorade. I was there about 20 minutes and then on the road to Brair Tree and Okahurst before returning to Kingwood.
Traffic was light over the route. Gene Campbell Road always has 18-wheelers but they give me room. That road exists for the giant WalMart distribution center and a number of other businesses that have moved there after WalMart.
Mile markers
- 36.39 miles this week
- 207.8 miles this month (509 miles left to reach the July goal)
- 3583 miles year to date
Tomorrow’s weather should repeat today according to the forecast. I should be riding. Watching the Tour de France via a DVR.
