About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Pam LeBlanc | fitness.blog.austin360.com

Laws pertaining to bicycling can get complicated.

That’s why Bike Austin, through a partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, is offering free classes to help people bike safely to work, the store, around the neighborhood or around the state.

Think of it as Driver’s Ed for cyclists, but useful to help motorists understand the rules of sharing the road.

League-certified instructors teach the classes, which …

Sharon McKendrick says police did nothing about driver who hit her

MichaelBluejay | bicycleaustin.info

Sharon McKendrick of the Downtown West neighborhood posted the following on Nextdoor.com, though you can see the post there only if you have a Nextdoor.com account and you live in a bordering neighborhood.

I was once hit & run’d and had a license plate plus multiple witnesses but the police had no interest in pursuing it, though in my case I wasn’t injured at all. Still, given my experience, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Ms. McKendrick’s account is true. I relayed it to the Austin Chronicle. They did a story once …

Stradalli Red Pro 14 Carbon 26,026 Miles Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on November 28, 2017 by Rick AnkrumNovember 28, 2017

The weather forecast showed a high of 80 today but it is good I didn’t wait on that to happen before leaving on a bike ride. Instead I left at 11:55 AM bicycling the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route for a total of 36.3 miles. It was 74 degrees with partly cloudy skies and the wind from the southeast at 15 mph which added to the chill. Fortunately I wore two jerseys (long and short sleeve) along with bike shorts. When I was in the sun it was okay but the shade made the ride chilly.

It has been several bike rides since I rode to the north (November 15th) but nothing really changed along the route except now people have put out their Christmas decorations. I should’ve taken some pictures but I didn’t think about it until I got back home. Maybe next bike ride.

Timing was good passing all of the schools before dismissal and avoiding the parents traffic. No rest stop either since I was too hot and the water bottle lasted the whole ride.

With today’s bike ride the Stradalli Red Pro 14 now has 26,026 miles, the most miles I ever put on a bike. The first ride was in March 2014.

No other cyclists crossed my route today. I was all alone.

Tomorrow’s weather looks like a repeat of today although a cool front is supposed to arrive sometime during the day. I plan on riding.
