About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Dockless Bike Sharing Could Be Coming To Houston

Gail Delaughter | www.houstonpublicmedia.org

Houston City Council is now considering a pilot program to allow dockless bike share companies to operate in the city. Under a dockless system, bikes are left at various spots and users can unlock them with a cellphone app.

Caen Contee is one of the founders of LimeBike, a California company that wants to bring dockless bikes to Houston. He gave us a demonstration of the bright yellow and green bikes in the parking lot of …

Upon leaving Shepherd Sanctuary, about half a mile down the road, three to five dogs were sitting in a yard, and started barking as we approached. All of a sudden, they lunged toward us, with one of them passing in front of me at close range. I didn’t have time to maneuver, and therefore hit the dog. Not bad – he yelped – I’m guessing that I ran over his foot. Sure glad I didn’t t-bone him, otherwise I would have gone down. I couldn’t stop to see if he was okay, as the other dogs were still on the chase, although we were faster. Poor thing, he doesn’t know how to …

Brownsville debates best course for old rail corridor

By STEVE CLARK | www.brownsvilleherald.com

Years ago, when officials first started talking about relocating eight miles of Union Pacific rail line from West Brownsville to a new route outside of town, the assumption was that the old railroad right-of-way, once the tracks were gone, would be turned into a road stretching from the B&M International Bridge to what is now I-69E.

Accordingly, the Barnard family, owners of …

Sunday Bike Ride in Kingwood

Texbiker.net Posted on November 26, 2017 by Rick AnkrumNovember 26, 2017

I got home late from church and with the blue sky and 75 degree temperature I decided to go for a bike ride. I didn’t hit the open roads but chose to ride the streets and trails in Kingwood for a total of 15.7 miles. I started at 1:28 Pm and finished at 2:41 PM. I rode my Blue Norcross AL bike for some variety.

Wardrobe choices: long sleeve jersey, short sleeve jersey and shorts. I hesitated to wear the long sleeve jersey but once out the door I was glad I did because the wind chill would have made me cold.

There were several “casual” cyclists out along the route enjoying the weather.

Still a few days left in November to ride if the weather will cooperate.

Could ‘dockless’ bike-share be an Uber-Lyft replay for Austin?

By Ben Wear and Pam LeBlanc | www.mystatesman.com

The sudden appearance of several dozen “dockless” bikes back in March might have a familiar ring to anyone who watched Uber and Lyft barge unauthorized into the Austin market back in 2014.
The rental bicycles, some of them bright yellow and others a non-Austintatious shade of orange, simply showed up here and there on downtown Austin streets as South by Southwest kicked off. City officials, looking at the Ofo and Spin logos on the bikes — some properly upright on kick-stands, others lying …
