About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Winter isn’t the time when most people expect to see new trail updates, but in Texas, that’s the prime season for digging. Spider Mountain, a bike park 60 miles northwest of Austin, Texas, boasts a bold claim of being the only year round lift access park in the United States.

Part of the deal with being a year round park means that new trail is getting cut in all the time. Take a look at their latest line and race course update below. …

Probably Last Bike Ride Of 2023. No Arguing With My Legs

Texbiker.net Posted on December 18, 2023 by Rick AnkrumDecember 18, 2023

No arguing with my legs on today’s bike ride. The temperature warmed up from 38 degrees when I woke up around 6 AM to 70 when I started biking at 12:39 PM. Sun was plentiful and the wind light. With the later start I rode a route similar to last Thursday going south through Atascocita and Walden. I added some streets to increase the mileage to 27.11 from Thursday’s 21.44. I finished at 2:50 PM. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike to use each of my three bikes over the last 3 rides. This will probably be my last ride of 2023 because of Christmas and New Year commitments. December was a good month surpassing my 200 road mile goal with 269.3 miles and 169.3 Zwift miles. For the year I surpassed all my previous year totals riding 8533 road miles and 1314 Zwift miles for a total of 9847.

Bicyclist hit by car proves case after insurance fight; shares lesson for others

by: Arezow Doost | www.kxan.com

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Michael Passman looks over the intersection at North Lamar Lamar Boulevard and St Johns Avenue.

It’s a busy December morning as cyclists and pedestrians cross. The intersection is marked with a crosswalk and green-backed chevron which the City of Austin explained is used when bicycles and pedestrians share the same path.

Passman — who rides more than 100 miles a week — is familiar with the markings.

In mid-October, Passman said he was riding his bicycle westbound on St Johns and had stopped at the intersection. He said when the …

My Legs Argued For Leg Warmers, I Ignored Them

Texbiker.net Posted on December 17, 2023 by Rick AnkrumDecember 17, 2023

After getting home from church I had a hard time deciding on riding outdoors or Zwift. As I ate a snack the temperature jumped around 65 degrees. I made up my mine after riding Zwift 5 times this week that outdoors was necessary. Getting dressed I donned shorts, a long sleeve thermal jersey and a wind jacket. I opted to not wear leg warmers which my legs argued for after the ride started at 2:23 PM. Aboard my Lynskey Helix bike I wasn’t sure which Kingwood streets would be on the route. I mix the streets up when I do that, enough that Strava didn’t find any matching rides out of the 18 previous Kingwood streets rides this year. Because of the unknown streets I guessed the ride would go 18 miles but I ended up at 20.29 miles when I finished at 4:01 PM.

Yesterday I received the battery pack/headlight from AliExpress to used with my GoPro for longer rides when the GoPro battery dies. Today’s ride wasn’t that long time wise so I didn’t test it. Maybe in January. This is what it looks like. The attached cable is neatly hidden.

The summary of this week’s bike rides shows 5 Zwift rides and 2 outdoor rides. December totals 411.5 miles. Year to date I biked 9820 miles, my best year ever.
