About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Riding their bikes to the Ride for the Roses

Texbiker.net Posted on October 19, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 19, 2008

Twenty-three bicyclists whose lives have been touched by cancer will set off from Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday (10/19/08) to ride the 1,500 miles to Austin by Thursday.

The cyclists are on five teams that will ride relay-style with the help of 16 support personnel. Together, the members of the Challenge to Conquer Cancer have raised $160,000 for cancer research.

Once they get to Austin, they’ll register for the Ride for the Roses LiveStrong Challenge on Oct. 24-25.

Kiwanis Crazy Kicker Ride Report

Texbiker.net Posted on October 19, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 19, 2008

As usual Keith Burgess-Jackson gives a stirring report on his ride experience. His blog reports:

“This morning, in beautiful Mineral Wells, Texas, I did my 23d bike rally of the year and my 444th overall. Once again, the weather cooperated. Actually, the weather did more than cooperate; it delighted us. The autumn sky was clear blue; the temperature was mild (albeit chilly at the start); and there was only a touch of wind. My friend Randy showed up, as he did a week ago in Glen Rose. My other so-called friends, namely Joe, Phil, and Julius, wimped out, as is their wont. A friend, in case you haven’t heard, is someone you know real well but like anyway. A good friend is someone you know real well and don’t particularly like, but hang around with anyway.”

National Park Service Proposes Rule Change

Texbiker.net Posted on October 15, 2008 by Rick AnkrumOctober 15, 2008

A proposed National Park Service (NPS) regulation change will benefit Americans by improving mountain biking experiences in national parks. The new policy would empower park superintendents to manage trails for bicycles, without sacrificing environmental review or public comment opportunities.

“Bicycling is a good fit for many national parks. It’s a quiet, low-impact, family-friendly activity that provides a great way to get adults and kids excited about exploring America’s most scenic places,” says IMBA Executive Director Mike Van Abel. “We’re very pleased that the NPS intends to update its regulations to better serve visitors.”
