About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Houston Chronicle Cycling Notebook Mention

Texbiker.net Posted on February 22, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 22, 2007

Today’s (February 22rd) Houston Chronicle Cycling Notebook‘s Dale Robertson recommended texbiker.net’s event calendar as a “go to” source for Texas bicycling events. I appreciate his mention and link.

Also in the article Dale writes about Austin riders biking to Alaska. Fortunately, they will ride in June. I would not look forward to riding a bike to Alaska right now.

Ever Wonder What It Is Like to Ride in a Support Vehicle?

Texbiker.net Posted on February 22, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 23, 2007

The Fredcast podcast this week is reporting behind the scenes at the Amgen Tour of California. David Bernstein in episode 58 rode in the Mavic car 1 during the race and talked with Randy the driver. You can get a perspective of racing you will not see on TV.

Humble Lions Club Ride this Saturday, Gator Ride the Following Week

Texbiker.net Posted on February 19, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 19, 2007

This is my first planned group organized ride of the year. The weatherman is predicting mid-70’s temperatures and 80% chance of no rain (I prefer this way of rain %). Although I have not ridden many outside miles this year I am looking forward to the 63 mile route. Sunday I may not be moving as quickly though.

Just to build on this I am also planning on the Baytown Gator Ride on March 3rd. It’s too early to know what kind of weather to expect. This year I will be riding on new tires and so I should not need to rely on duct tape to make it to the finish line. Last year my rear tire wore through the casing producing a flat. I needed to be creative to make it to the finish line. I moved the rear tire to the front and found some duct tape at a later rest stop.

I will be watching for riders at both events. I might snap a picture or two for the website. Now I need to figure how to get a texbiker.net jersey to wear to rides.

Finally, Three Rides in a Row

Texbiker.net Posted on February 19, 2007 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 19, 2007

After a slow start riding this year I was able to get three  days of rides. Although the miles were not long enough I did manage to get the year to date total above 200. Saturday’s gusty winds were tough but the temperature was mild. Sunday the wind died down but the temperature was in the 50’s. Tonight the sky was overcast but the 65 degree temperature was just enough.

A sign that it may harder to bike from home this year: construction on US59 had portions of the south bound service road closed on Saturday. This caused an unplanned route change on the return leg. I may be driving to some of my weekend ride starting points to get outside of the construction zone.
