About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

300+ bicycles given away to area kids by Men Making Moves nonprofit

By Rusty Surette | www.kbtx.com

NAVASOTA, Texas (KBTX) – The non-profit organization Men Making Moves made a lot of families happy this weekend!

On Saturday the group gave out more than 300 bicycles to kids from all across the Brazos Valley in the parking lot of Navasota High School. There were also snow cones and hot dogs provided to families who showed up for a chance to win a bicycle.

“The day would not have been successful without the large pool of sponsors who gave generously toward the bicycle purchases,” said founder Earnest Jefferson. “Thanks for all of the help we had from the …

Had a great ride with a small group of guys, and just before we got to Medina, Timothy Murphy and I were descending a very steep section of highway with several sharp corners. According to Tim, he “overcooked one,“ but with his disc brakes was able to slow down in time and stay upright. I wasn’t able to, and rather than hit Tim, I basically hit the deck. My right shifter by the brake lever became dysfunctional, but I was still able to shift the bike manually by pushing the buttons on the derailleurs themselves. I’m very thankful to Michael Matt for hanging back with me, and helping me decide which gear to put my bike in as I had to ride it as a single speed for the rest of the ride. As always, though, I am most thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for keeping me safe, and allowing me to return to this sport which I love, and for another safe ride.?

Muscle Soreness Recedes, Church For Sale

Texbiker.net Posted on December 10, 2022 by Rick AnkrumDecember 10, 2022

Because I started today’s bike ride at 10:27 AM I didn’t expect to see other cyclists as I rode the Atascocita – Huffman – Walden route. But I did see 3 casual cyclists around the 1.2 mile point on the greenbelt where it goes under Northpark Drive. The video clips are short today because I didn’t think to shoot more. I rode my Cervelo Caledonia bike 32.34 miles finishing at 1:00 PM. Another reason for the late Saturday start: men and women’s Exact cyclocross races from northern Belgium on GCN+.

I am 76% of the way to my December 200 road mile goal.

My legs and neck muscles are getting back in shape. Those muscles have been sore from the rides this week but felt better today. Almost 2 weeks of not riding took a toll.

As I rode by the church on Fairlake Lane I saw a for sale sign. The parking lot is a favorite gathering spot for cyclists who drive there to start their ride. I don’t know the market for church properties but it will be missed if cyclists cannot park there.

The warm December weather stayed around though it was a couple degrees cooler than yesterday but I started later then. I wore shorts, long sleeve poly T-shirt, and a short sleeve jersey on top. Weather for the bike ride: start 74 (humidity 85%, dew point 69), mostly cloudy, wind SE 4 mph; finish 78 (humidity 77%, dew point 70), mostly cloudy, wind SE 7 mph.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – Many cyclists from across Wichita Falls gathered for Thursday’s Jingle Bells Ride.

Video: Austin aims to expand MetroBike program to underserved communities using state funding

www.kvue.com

The city transportation department said MetroBike has seen "significant growth" in ridership since introducing e-assist bikes in 2020.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin residents could soon see more bicycles in the area as the city council looks to expand the MetroBike system.

At the Austin City Council’s regular meeting on Thursday, council members approved a measure to apply for a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation to expand MetroBike. That’s the city’s docked, bike-share system maintained and operated by Capital Metro.

Austin is one of the few cities that …
