About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Count Program

www.txdot.gov

Where, when, and how often do bicyclists ride and pedestrians walk? TxDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Count Program attempts to answer these questions in partnership with local and regional governments around Texas. The program includes a statewide network of continuous and short-term bicycle and pedestrian count equipment, an interface for sharing data and data management tools for local agency partners.

Bicycle and pedestrian count equipment may be installed on sidewalks, roadways, and shared use paths across the state. The data can be used in planning tools to measure existing patterns and model future trends at the site, corridor and regional levels. These data can be used to …

VIDEO: Rare bike stolen from Austin bike shop

By Meredith Aldis | www.fox7austin.com

AUSTIN, Texas – An Austin bike shop manager said a rare bike is missing from their shop after a man took off with it on Sunday. The incident was caught on camera.

John Whitsell, the manager of Austin Tri-Cyclist, said the person who came in their store was knowledgeable about bikes and seemed trustworthy.

"He did seem like someone who rides bikes very, very often and had some kind of knowledge about what bikes are good for what and kind of knew what he was looking for," Whitsell said.

The customer had …

Goodness, Those Clouds Are Dark

Texbiker.net Posted on August 29, 2022 by Rick AnkrumAugust 29, 2022

A delayed start for today’s bike ride. Light rain, not enough to register on my home weather station, happened as I ate breakfast. While I waited for the streets to dry off a little I did some yard work pulling up plants. I finished the plant removal and got ready to ride. I rolled my Lynskey Helix bike out of the driveway at 10:45 AM intending on riding my “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. But as I rode through Woodridge Forest on the way to US59/I-69 the sky to the east and south turned dark gray, you can see it in the video. I made an executive decision even though I’m not an executive to shorten the ride to “Kingwood Streets” to get back home to avoid the rain.

Making a loop through Brooklyn Trails I rode back to the south and east pedaling hard to beat the rain. I crossed Northpark Drive after a short wait at the traffic light, took the first street to the left from Hidden Pines to ride on the greenbelt trail and avoid the traffic along Northpark Drive. That was a good choice but after I rode across Woodland Hills Drive I made a bad decision to continue on the greenbelt trail rather than beside Northpark Drive. Not long after I heard the rain hitting the leaves on the trees overhead, stopped my bike and turned around. I looked for some shelter at the school but didn’t see any so I rode fast to the Speedy Stop store and went under the pump canopy to wait for the rain to stop. It didn’t last long but it soaked the streets. Steam rose from the wet concrete and I rode on home since the rain moved north where I originally was head. I finished the ride at 11:52 AM after biking 12.25 miles. Not as far as I planned but better than 0 miles.

Weather conditions: start 84 (humidity 81%, dew point 77), overcast, wind SE 12 mph; finish 78 (humidity 96%, dew point 77), overcast/light rain, wind SE 8 mph.
