About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Weather May Change, No Dogs, Bike Ride To Tavola And Back

Texbiker.net Posted on June 27, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJune 27, 2022

The weather might change this week to a few degrees cooler and wetter. I stress the might part. It was 86 when I started today’s bike ride at 9:14 AM. I was delayed a few minutes while I changed the battery on the speed sensor on the Cervelo Caledonia. That’s one of the reasons I always wake the senors before going outside. It would be nice if the Bolt computer warned of a sensor low battery like it does the Favero power meter pedal and the SRAM eTap batteries. Sometimes I have difficulty changing the speed sensor battery because of the front wheel spokes getting in the way.

Today I rode north on my “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. The last time I rode this route was June 17th. So far I biked this route 7 times this year. All but one has been on my Cervelo Caledonia bike.

I decided to ride through the Rock Creek at Northpark Drive intersection to see if the dogs were there. They did not show themselves.

I finished the bike ride at 12:15 PM with the temperature at 95. Weather conditions: start 86 (humidity 69%, dew point 74), partly cloudy, wind NW 5 mph; finish 95 (humidity 48%, dew point 72), partly cloudy, wind NE 7 mph. Wind was not a problem today. The strong winds from April and May are a distant memory. Now the heat is the main thing.

A chart I recently found using the Stravini Chrome extension shows my fitness trends using my Strava data for the past 6 month.

Bringle Lake mountain bike trail system to offer obstacle course soon

by Mallory Wyatt | www.texarkanagazette.com

The Bringle Lake Mountain Bike Trail System continues to offer an intriguing recreational option to those in the biking, running and walking communities.

Started by a grassroots effort around 2013-2014, competing bikers collaborated with the Texarkana Texas Parks and Recreation Department to bring this unique attraction to the community.

"The city Parks and Rec Department let us build it, which is great. But financially, they weren’t involved with it. It was all done in volunteer dollars," said Terry Berridge, owner of Berridge Bikes. "People have come and gone over the years, as far as the management keeping it up. But it is 100% an organic, volunteer trail system."

The trail includes various loops labeled by color with varying levels of difficulty to ride.

It starts out at the green loop, which is two miles, easier to …

A Discovery Bicycling In Kingwood In The Heat

Texbiker.net Posted on June 26, 2022 by Rick AnkrumJune 26, 2022

It’s a good thing I don’t mind biking when it’s hot because today’s bike ride was during the heat of the day. I began the ride at 1:21 PM and finished at 3:03 PM. With all of the sun and heat I rode the Kingwood streets taking advantage of the shade where possible. It wasn’t a long ride covering 19.89 miles but enough to put my week’s total miles up to 231.57 and June to 848.87 miles. This is the 5th week in a row of 200+ miles. And my Lynskey Helix bike now has 314 miles under its wheels.

I made a discovery today as I rode through a shopping center undergoing redevelopment I saw a new Trek bike shop. Watch the video to see what I found. The shopping center is in the NW corner of Kingwood Drive and W. Lake Houston Parkway. I went inside looking around and learned they’ve been open about 3 weeks. Yesterday I watched a short bike ride clip on Strava that said it was the Trek Kingwood ride and I wondered what they meant. Now I know. I asked if they were connected to Trek Atascocita and the man said they were from there. I think I recognized the man I talked to.

With all of the heat the pond looking cooling.

Weather conditions: start 95 (humidity 39%, dew point 66), mostly clear, wind 3 mph; finish 97 (humidity 32%, dew point 62), a few clouds, wind variable 4 mph. Glad for the shade since the wind wasn’t providing much cooling.

This week I biked each day averaging 33.02 miles per day. I rode the Cervelo Caledonia bike 4 days and the Lynskey Helix 3 days. The longest ride was Wednesday on the Spring Creek Greenway. So far in June I’ve biked every day except for June 13th averaging 33.95 miles per ride.

6-26-2022 Week Ended Bike Rides Summary

Looking at the year to date bike rides on Kingwood streets I rode 12 times. The distances range from 15.88 miles to 21.79 miles. Today was about the average distance. The last 5 rides have been on my Lynskey Helix.

Going Green: 80-year-old Abilenian makes good on promise to cycle 80 miles

Greg Jaklewicz | www.reporternews.com

Bo Green said he was going to celebrate Saturday afternoon.

Not his 80-mile bike ride but the birthday for former Abilene Christian University administrator and state representative Bob Hunter’s 94th birthday.

Hunter should’ve celebrated Saturday morning with Green, who, at age 80, rode 80 miles. Because he could. ,,,

Now the Blitz is on and here come Wells in the back stretch

Brent Wells | strava.com

Even though there was a “Tour de Boerne”today, I decided to do this ride with Blitz since I ride those other roads nearly every time I go out. Today’s ride was incredibly hard as usual with Daniel, Casey, and Mike Karas leading the way. As always, I am very thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for allowing me to return to this sport
