About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Day 25: Lost Maples to Ingram, 2443’ of climbing, 3:43 hrs in the saddle. Half way point Wednesday October 13, 2021, 44 miles (71 km) – Total so far: 1,283 miles (2,065 km) Before I start, wanted to say we lost a rider today. Larry from Loveland called it quits and got a ride to Austin to fly home today. He wasn’t happy for the past couple of days, especially when the rain started. He Saged yesterday. When I saw his bike on the van today, I asked him he was giving it one more day – said he was. When we got to camp found out he left. I know this feeling so I’m not judging him, been there before when I quit 4 years ago. I learned that I couldn’t do this ride solo, just too lonely. I feel very confident now about making it to the end. It’s still hard but …

Liking The New Wheels Wind Gusts And All

Texbiker.net Posted on October 13, 2021 by Rick AnkrumOctober 13, 2021

Second bike ride on the new ICAN Cycling Alpha 50 Disc wheels today. I think my Lynskey R300 is quicker but maybe the new bike gear effect makes it seem that way. Those new wheels rolled away at 10:17 AM to follow my “Community Drive – Valley Ranch – Gene Campbell Blvd” route. This was the 4th time biking this route this year. The distance came in at 36.19 miles about the average for the route. My week improved to 102.46 miles setting up a potential 200 mile week. October totals 395.72 miles towards my 625 mile goal. Year to date i crossed over the 8,000 mile mark with 8,005 miles. I finished at 1:14 PM.

The weather heated up as Indian Summer hangs on but a cool front will arrive Friday or Saturday. It was warm enough for me to use my CamelBak and this time I didn’t forget it. Weather summary: start 85 (76% humidity, 77 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 10 mph; finish 88 (62% humidity, 73 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 17 mph gusts 23 mph. I wondered about the wind after making the u-turn at Gene Campbell Blvd. It felt stronger but I attributed that to my changing direction. It turned out to be much stronger with 23 mph gusts.

By David Jelmini | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 23: Del Rio to Campwood. 1871’ of climbing, 5:45 hrs in the saddle. The wind finally stopped

Monday October 11, 2021, 75 miles (121 km) – Total so far: 1,193 miles (1,920 km) Enjoyed my night in a motel room, so much nicer than camping. Rode with Greg and Larry all day. First 30 miles to Brackettville was nice and pretty flat, but I still felt tired from previous days of riding. I think we saw our first UDA’s (undocumented aliens), they were sitting on the side of a ditch with Sheriff talking to them. I’ve never seen so many State Troopers than today, probably half of the vehicles. In the middle of nowhere there …

Day 24: Camp Wood to Lost Maples state park, 3,537’of climbing, 4:40 hrs in the saddle, a nice change of scenary

Tuesday October 12, 2021, 46 miles (74 km) – Total so far: 1,239 miles (1,994 km) Last night wasn’t too bad with 4 guys sharing a floor, until someone had to go pee! Started raining early morning and didn’t stop till the end of ride. We officially entered the hill county which beautiful. …
