About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bike Ride for Survivors set for Saturday

Fort Bend Herald | www.fbherald.com

Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian Middleton remembers working the office’s “Running Against Violence” 5K Fun Run when he was a new prosecutor in the late 1990s.

“I always thought it was a great public service to go outside of what a prosecutor’s office traditionally does to support those organizations that help crime victims,” said Middleton. “It was also a good time with my coworkers, an entertaining after-party, and hopefully good weather!”

Over time, the foot race was discontinued and Middleton likewise moved on. But once …

Houston BCycle Station Finds New Home at 611 Walker
It’s official, the newest Houston BCycle station is located on prime time real estate, at the Bob Lanier Public Works Building, 611 Walker! The installation of the Louisiana & Walker bike station took place on August 24, and some of our planners were able to see first-hand the delivery and set up of a BCycle station. The Louisiana & Walker Bike station is solar-powered and can dock 13 bikes at full capacity.

The Houston Permitting Center will also be getting a bike station in the fall. The two bike stations will provide an important connection between the two facilities and allow city employees and customers to commute back and forth on a bike, and bypass the hassle of driving and parking. The bike station formerly located at City Hall will be relocated to Bagby Street and Walker in October, which is the estimated timeline for completion of the Bagby Street improvements.

Austin Public Works and Austin Transportation are inviting the community to provide feedback through a survey to help shape the future of Austin’s streets, sidewalks and urban trails.

The survey is open through Sept. 26 for ATX Walk Bike Roll, a project to update plans that determine where and when to build the city’s pedestrian and bicycle routes. Residents are encouraged to give input so that public feedback reflects the views of the community at large.

Today’s Bike Ride and August Biking Wrap Up

Texbiker.net Posted on August 31, 2021 by Rick AnkrumAugust 31, 2021

I wrapped up my August bike rides on my Canyon Endurace bike following what I call the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. The 9:12 AM start time was earlier than yesterday’s bike ride as was the 11:55 AM finish time. During that time I biked 34.56 miles. So far in 2021 I rode today’s route 11 times. Another cyclist passed by in Sherwood Trails Village in Kingwood early in the ride. You can see him in the video.

8-31-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Today’s Route

Another hot day according to the forecast but I avoided the hottest part of the day. Lots of blue sky. The wind stayed in the single digits and the headwind wasn’t too hard. Weather summary: start 84 (79% humidity, 77 dew point), a few clouds, wind W 7 mph; finish 90 (58% humidity, 73 dew point), a few clouds, wind SW 8 mph. It was hot enough to cause salt stains on my shorts and arm sleeves.

Construction at Atascocita Shores Drive and FM 1960 backed up traffic with crews working on the traffic lights. I waited to turn right onto FM 1960 as 4 policemen directed traffic. On the return part of the ride the traffic thinned out and getting onto Atascocita Shores Drive to the north was easier. Riding north on the sidewalk to the right of FM 2100 the weeds still hang over in places but the water left and the mud dried up.

Some Headwind, Some Tailwind Out/Back To SH 242

Texbiker.net Posted on August 30, 2021 by Rick AnkrumAugust 30, 2021

Not riding yesterday allowed my legs to recover from Saturday’s HH100 ride. I needed that for today’s bike ride to the north into a headwind that started at 9:17 AM and finished at 12:15 PM. The 7 mph headwind graduated to to 13 mph during my ride. Fortunately the route made a u-turn at SH 242 and went south changing the headwind to a modest tailwind. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike on what I call my “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route for 36.37 miles. This brought my August total to 950.8 miles, well over my 800 mile goal. During 2021 I biked this route 7 times. The image below compares the 7 rides.

8-30-2021 YTD Bike Rides Kingwood – SH242 – Kingwood

Today the Vuelta a Espana took a rest day. Maybe this was a recovery day for me too. I did watch 2 races on GCN+ after the ride.

Overall the weather was typical August. Weather conditions: start 82 (75% humidity, 74 dew point), a few clouds, wind N 7 mph; finish 90 (56% humidity, 72 dew point), partly cloudy, wind NW 13 mph. Later after I finished the bike ride the high could hit the upper 90’s. The bright blue sky was nice.
