About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Taking Linda Lou On MSU Bike Ride With Mustangs

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

I went on a long bike ride this final Sunday morning of the 2021 version of May.

About halfway through the bike ride I stopped at the location you see above to drink some water and to see why my phone had made its incoming text noise.

With the phone out of its bike storage location I decided to use it to take a photo.

A time or two Linda Lou has asked me what the university I live near is like. Like as in how, asked I, a time or two.

To which Linda Lou asked is it big? Old? Lots of buildings? Brick?

I recollect answering yes to all …

Really it was an 84-miler, followed by a 90-minute rain delay, and a 16-mile recovery ride! 🤣🤣🤣 Ran from the rain all morning until it finally caught me!

Two Milestones, Nice Dew Point, Emergency Vehicles

Texbiker.net Posted on May 30, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 30, 2021

Even though I started the bike ride at 1:29 PM it felt a little cooler than 80 degrees thanks to a dew point of 68. That was nice but the 12 mph wind made for some tough pedaling as a headwind. Thankfully the wind dropped to 9 mph by the time I finished at 3:41 PM. Tomorrow is Memorial Day so summer unofficially begins this weekend.

At the start of the ride I needed 15 miles to reach a couple of important levels: a 200 mile week and an 800 mile month. Biking the “Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Valley Ranch” route was 29.33 miles. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike.

5-30-2021 Bike Ride Lynskey R300

A summary of the week’s rides shows no ride on Monday due to rain but I still made it to 200+ miles. For the month I am at 815.96 miles with one day left.

On Old Sorters Road a bunch of emergency vehicles hugged the right side of the road. The video shows more.

Early Start, Swim Meets, Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 29, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMay 29, 2021

I paused watching stage 20 of the Giro d’Italia to get an earlier than usual start on today’s bike ride (I’ll finish watching after the bike ride). When I start early on Saturday sometimes I see other cyclists along the “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” route. Wheels down and rolling on my Canyon Endurace bike at 8:53 AM also meant an early finish at 11:28 AM. Today’s ride distance came in at 32.34 miles moving the week to 185.19 miles. Tomorrow I need to ride 15 miles to get a 200 mile week. Those same miles will put May at 800+ miles. Are you listening rain?

Watch the video to find out if I saw other cyclists.

Weather conditions: start 74 (83% humidity, 68.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NW 6 mph; finish 82 (69% humidity, 70.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. The wind wasn’t a battle like yesterday’s ride. The humidity at the start made it feel cooler but sticky. When I got up the temperature was 67 probably the aftermath of rain during the night.

Several swim meets at Kingwood village pools mark the end of the school year and beginning of summer. Traffic can be tricky biking by the pools with cars parked and others looking for a place to park. On the way back to Kingwood I altered the route to avoid the Kings River pool and traffic. I used the bolt computer map page to find the streets to avoid the pool. That was the first time I used that on a bike computer, I think.

Back in Kingwood I saw this flag out for the Memorial Day weekend.
