About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bouncing Back From The Shot, FM 2100 Detour Bike Ride to Huffman

Texbiker.net Posted on March 20, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMarch 20, 2021

Today spring arrived but it took awhile for the temperature to get above my 60 degree threshold. While I waited I watched the last 115 K of Milan – SanRemo race on GCN+. The race was 299 K long and started at 3 AM this morning. The long broadcast required a change of commentators with 70 K left. I didn’t need to change though. I didn’t bike yesterday because of a light reaction to my second COVID-19 vaccination shot. That meant this week wouldn’t be a 200+ mile week.

My usual Saturday route wasn’t available today due to FM 2100 being closed in Huffman at the railroad tracks. I rode my “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route leaving off the Fairlake Lane, Old Atascocita Road, and FM 2100 north part. Starting at 12:46 PM riding my Lynskey R300 bike I wasn’t sure if FM 1960 traffic and detour would allow me to ride east to FM 2100 but no problem. Watch the video to see the traffic situation.

3-20-2021 Bike Ride Today's Bike

The temperature went up and down before getting to 60 and staying there long enough for me to leave on the bike ride. I bundled up with shorts, leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, windbreaker jacket, and full finger gloves. I wore a new pair of Sidi Alba-2 Mega shoes for the first time (see below). Weather conditions: start 61 (45% humidity, 39.1 dew point), a few clouds, wind N 6 mph; finish 66 (37% humidity, 39 dew point), fair, wind NE 10 mph. Getting to Huffman required battling a headwind and my legs were taxed by the time I turned around just east of FM 2100. The ride back to the west with a tailwind helped them to recover.

  • 3-20-2021 First Time Sidi Alba-2 Mega Shoes-2

No other cyclists along the route today. Probably because of my late start and the detour around FM 2100. I achieved “Local Legend” according to Strava on the segment “Eastward to 2100”.

3-20-2021 Strava Bike Ride Summary

I biked 32.1 miles today putting the week’s total at 140.55 miles, March road miles at 432.6 (168 left to reach my goal), and overall March miles at 552.64.

Zwift FZR Thursday Tempo Ride (E) France R G V

Texbiker.net Posted on March 18, 2021 by Rick AnkrumMarch 18, 2021

It was a little chilly when it was time to ride plus I had an appointment in the middle of the afternoon so I opted to Zwift. I chose the FZR Thursday Tempo Ride on the France R G V course starting at 11:30 AM and running for 60 minutes. This marked the third time I rode this course, 2 for 60+ minutes and 1 for 46 minutes all in 2021. The course covers the upper, larger loop of the map in a clockwise direction. The first 12km is pan-flat, while the back half includes a timed KOM and some rollers along the river. “R.G.V” stands for route grand vitesse, or “high speed road”. A fitting name, since this route is definitely one for the sprinters. Though only 24km in length, it includes three timed sprint segments! I biked 21.06 miles today versus my last ride on March 2nd when I rode 22.06 miles. 499 feet of climbing over the 21.06 miles was spread out thankfully.

After I finished I saw 25,846 people listed as online in Zwift. There were 253 in my event.

The tempo ride leader asked everyone to ride in power zone 3 which I think I accomplished from the ride summary in Golden Cheetah below.

Screenshots from the ride.
