… There are two events happening this Saturday that are tailor-made for family fun and safe social distancing. Up first is the 2021 Kiwanis Riverside Ride and KIDZFest.

The Ride starts at 8 a.m. in DeLeon Plaza and consists of five “rides” ranging from 6 miles to 60 miles. Now, I will tell you, I did this once when it was 40 miles, and I literally thought I was going to die. I was an unexperienced rider on a Wal-Mart bike with no actual concept of how long 40 miles on a bicycle was. It was one of those “my eyes were bigger than my stomach” scenarios, and I was just thankful I survived. I’m being a little dramatic, of course, but it was one of the least informed decisions I have ever made.

Zwift – Greater London Flat Vikings Valhalla Recovery Ride

No outdoors bike ride today with a rain front passing through around 11 AM. That meant today’s bike ride took to Zwift. When I opened the Zwift companion app 22,861 Zwifters were on hand. Scrolling through the event list I chose the Viking Valhalla Recovery Ride starting at 12:20 PM. Group D gathered to ride 60 minutes on the Greater London Flat course. The course features a 3.5 mile lead-in before hitting the 7.2 mile lap. In 61 minutes I biked 21.3 miles and climbed 361 feet. The previous time I rode this course was January 8th, 2021, covering 19.5 miles in 1:01:19 versus today’s 1:00:55. Nice improvement.

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) – Hotter’N Hell Hundred’s 40th anniversary is planned as a live event in 2021.

Organizers with HHH said, “This year we have again attempted to simplify the registration process for the HH100 event weekend by including HHH Endurance Rides and the Wichita Falls Streams & Valleys Wee-Chi-Tah Trail activities on the same BikeReg page.”

The annual cycling event, which takes places in Texas’ historically hottest month, is scheduled on Aug. 26 through Aug. 29.

New Jersey and Socks, Misty At Times Biking To Huffman

After watching the final stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico time trial I didn’t wait too long to start today’s bike ride. I stuck with my original route riding the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” one. I incorporated the longer beginning and biking 35.68 miles. This put me 67% of the way to my 600 mile goal for March. I wore two new items on the ride: a long sleeve blue Voler jersey with And 1 socks. The jersey doesn’t show in the video because of my windbreaker jacket.

I like the And 1 socks because of the fabric blend and thickness. In cool weather my feet stay warm and dry.

Starting Friday the 19th FM 2100 at the railroad crossing in Huffman will be closed for track work. This will mess traffic up as people try to get around the work. I will not ride my usual route on Saturday to that area. Thursday will probably be my last ride there until next week.

Today wasn’t that cool even with the overcast sky. Wind was light thankfully. Several times during the bike ride I encountered light mist but not for long. Weather during the bike ride: start 69 (98% humidity, 68.8 dew point), fog/overcast, wind calm; finish 74 (91% humidity, 71.3 dew point), fog/mist, wind SE 8 mph. The ride started at 11:17 AM and finished at 2:01 PM. The jacket came in handy when I was in the mist and brief light rain near the end of the bike ride.

This was a 2 camera bike ride. I used the Drift Ghost XL for the first half and then switched to the GoPro Hero 7 Black. I made some adjustments to the Drift camera to soften the audio and the video. The audio is not as scratchy and the video accommodates the lower light from the overcast sky. I’m still searching for a better way to attach the mic to the Drift camera. I tried a 3M Command strip today but the mic came loose. I will use the Velcro strip until I come up with a better idea.
