I needed 5 miles to reach my March road mile goal of 680 miles. Today’s bike route accomplished that with 37.18 miles and March now totals 712 road miles and 842.67 miles adding in Zwift riding. This is the most miles for a month since last October. Starting at 11:52 AM riding my Cervelo Caledonia bike I chose the Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive route. I made a couple of changes continuing north on Woodland Hills Drive riding through Woodridge Forest to cross over Northpark Drive. This gave me the opportunity to set a Strava 2nd fastest time on Soaring Woods to Northpark (1:50) on Woodridge Parkway. Later on the way back to Kingwood at Rebawood Drive I turned left connecting with Sunny Shores Drive back to Atascocita Shores Drive. This route usually averages around 36 miles and the changes added a mile. The weather was a big improvement from yesterday with sun, warmer temperature, and a light 6 mph wind. I was able to get my overall average speed up to 14.2 mph on the way back to Kingwood. Link to my AXS.SRAM.com ride report. I finished at 2:37 PM.
Weather: Start 69 degrees, humidity 58%, dew point 53.5, fair, wind S 6 mph; Finish 73 degrees, humidity 48%, dew point 52.3, a few clouds, wind E 5 mph.
Local kids learned how to ride their bikes safely in an engaging way at an event this past weekend.

About 250 students from kindergarten through middle school and supervisors received a series of educational stations on bike maintenance, bike safety and helmet fitting. Free helmets were given out to the first 80 children.
Looking for a great mountain bike ride near Austin? Head to Pace Bend! These trails are classic Texas Hill Country riding – don’t miss Wookiee Way.
There are a lot of great mountain biking trails around Austin, Texas. I spent almost two weeks there checking off as many rides as I could and one of my favorite destinations (which is also a local’s favorite) is Pace Bend.
It’s not a huge trail network, but it’s definitely worth a few hours of exploring. You’ll want to hit Wookiee Way, the trail to do at Pace Bend.
If it’s your first time visiting, this post covers …
This Friday through Sunday, the Hill Country will see an influx of cycling enthusiasts.

I am in one of those moods where I could blog all day long, but gotta go meet Bernadette Schaeffler for lunch. So check out this article that tells us Texas is not the worst state for bicyclists. But then, that may be because we don’t have as many bike commuters as does California, Florida, New York and the others.
I’m not a biker. Oh, I have a snazzy bike in the garage, but I do my cycling at the gym. Used to bike a lot when the kids were little. That doesn’t mean I might not get the wheels pumped with air and dust off that bike one of these days. Biking is great for your glutes!
But biking terrifies me in Dallas, where, in my opinion, people drive too fast especially in trucks or SUVs. My husband was avidly biking for a bit ’till a car ran him off the road. Anyhow, this is …
Cycling in a downtown area is never going to be easy or particularly safe. Ask bike messengers who have, for decades, attempted to avoid death and serious injury while delivering items through busy city streets. But, the city of Houston has, for a while anyway, attempted to mitigate some of those concerns with dedicated bike lanes marked pretty clearly with green paint and crossing lights, a welcome addition for many cyclists.
Unfortunately, with the new Mayor’s office looking at the possibility of reversing some of the previous administrations efforts at improving cyclist and pedestrian safety, we …
My aversion to below 60 degree weather almost got the better of me today but I kept thinking about only needing 28 miles to reach my March goal of 680 miles. After making a run to Walmart to exchange an item I got ready to go for today’s bike ride. The temperature fluctuated between 60 and 63 but I dressed warmly and headed out on my Cervelo Caledonia bike at 1:07 PM. Weather radar showed a big patch of green on the southwest side of Houston moving a little towards Kingwood. With that in mind and chilly weather I decided to ride the Kingwood – Brooklyn Trails route to not stray too far from home in case rain happened. Leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, wind jacket and full finger gloves kept me comfortable most of the ride as I covered 23.48 miles leaving 5 more miles to reach my goal. Tomorrow’s weather looks better to get those 5 miles and more. I finished the ride at 2:59 PM without and rain.
Weather: Start 63 degrees, humidity 55%, dew point 46.7, overcast, wind N 9 mph; Finish 62 degrees, humidity 60%, dew point 48.3, overcast, wind N 7 mph.
As I was researching my trip to Texas Hill Country, I saw a place on TrailForks that looked intriguing: Reveille Peak Ranch. Located almost squarely between Spider Mountain (to the north) and Station Mountain (to the south), this trail network – at least from what I could tell – was definitely worth a visit (just check out the trail map!).
To be honest, the layout of the Ranch was a bit intimidating, though – there’s a lot of ground to cover. But thankfully I had two friends and Austin locals (sort of) to show me around. The first couple of miles into our ride I was a bit unsure (overgrown trails and mean rocks?) but once we got on the good stuff, I was sold! Reveille Peak Ranch is a pretty cool destination for mountain bikers – if you know what you’re getting into.
In this post, I share everything you need to know about …

We arrive in Johnston City, named after the family of JBJ. We stopped in the LBJ childhood home and museum, which was interesting.
We will be in the biggest city we have seen since El Paso… Austin tomorrow, and are preparing ourselves for city traffic once again.
The Austin City Council approved city code changes on March 7, allowing more legal wiggle room to maintain the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail around Lady Bird Lake.
The City Council initiated the code amendments with a resolution last May, aligning the trail with the city’s code. Leslie Lilly, the environmental program conservation manager of the city’s watershed protection department, said the …
The Texas Department of Transportation has launched a new statewide safety campaign aimed at reducing the rising number of fatal crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists.
But while state officials say they hope to raise awareness of traffic safety laws through the campaign, funding for infrastructure projects favoring drivers dwarfs funding for work that would improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists in Gregg and Smith counties by more than $500 million. …
