I dressed warm for today’s bike ride and set out on the Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route to get closer to my March road mile goal. My Canyon Endurace bike and I rolled out at 12:06 PM. I rode 35.13 miles leaving 28 miles to reach the 680 mile goal. I prefer it to be much warmer but I was driven by the goal.

Approximately 140 cyclists converged in Cleveland on Saturday, March 16, peddling their way through the early morning scenic routes of Liberty County at the Sixth Annual Rock-N-Ride, hosted by the Greater Cleveland Chamber of Commerce.
This event serves to not only attract cycling enthusiasts from across the region, but to put Cleveland in the spotlight and serve as a fundraiser for the Chamber.
Participants had the choice of a 56-mile or a shorter 26-mile route, going through the beautiful Sam Houston National Forest. Safety precautions, such as signage and police escorts, make this a very beginner-friendly cycling event. …

The Enchanted at Erwin race weekend started with a thousand questions weeks before the race. Can these trails be ready in time? The North Texas teams (North Texas Composite, South Metro, Highland Park Scots) rallied together to put in over 1,000 volunteer hours to work on the trails. It was incredible showcase of community and determination!
The rains came in Thursday night before race weekend and all of that hard work was about to be put to the test. On Friday morning, league staff and volunteers walked the course and evaluated conditions. It wasn’t awful, but it certainly wasn’t great. Camping arrangements were shifted and locals leaned in for setting up contingency plans left and right. The entire 4.5 mile course was marked ON FOOT. …

Today was a very windy ride in Texas Hill Country. We will soon be in Austin, and on to less hills and more miles per day.
We were passed by a group of 8 cyclists that are also going to St. Augustine, Florida. They were carrying no gear, and are therefore on a “supported” tour (van to carry their gear, and staying mostly on motels). A very strong 70 year old rider in their group we saw several times because he was backtracking to put in more miles! He said the others were “too slow.”

We didn’t bring our bikes on our trip to Texas, but we were still able to cycle the Riverwalk Missions Trail in San Antonio by using the BCycle program. The Riverwalk Missions Trail is a 14 mile round trip path that connects four of the five historic missions along the San Antonio river. Together, they make up the only UNESCO World Heritage site in the state of Texas and is one of the state’s most visited attractions. …

First Second Time at Reveille Peak for fun and watching and filming the Enduro Race…Plenty of amazing skill shown by all on this super tough terrain and race. As for me, I fell again this time on simple stuff and hurt my shoulder, but its seems …
Boy was it windy for today’s bike ride. The wind was from the SSE at 24 mph with 34 mph gusts. Extra pedaling effort every time I headed into the wind. I started at 1:47 PM with an overcast sky and with the wind it felt chilly at 69 degrees. Since it was Sunday and a late start I rode my Lynskey Helix bike on the Kingwood – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway – Oakhurst route. This is a relative new route this being the third time to ride it.

Maybe with some help from the wind I got this Strava 3rd fastest time on Super Secret 4×4 Shortcut (1:03) riding west on the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway from Woodland Hills Drive to Hamblen Road. Biking south on the US59 frontage road from Auburn Trails to Northpark Drive required determination because of the headwind. the gusts blew me around in other places whenever it had the chance.
Weather: Start 69 degrees, humidity 75%, dew point 60.7, overcast, wind SE 16 mph; Finish 70 degrees, humidity 75%, dew point 61.6, overcast, wind SSE 22 mph gusts 34 mph.
The week bike rides concluded today with 217 miles. Five road rides and two Zwift rides.
