About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Police: Bicyclists on Meth Raid Neighborhood Mailboxes

By Joe Hyde | sanangelolive.com

SAN ANGELO, TX — Just before 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, March 10, 2020, San Angelo police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Dallas Street for the report of a man and woman riding bicycles and stealing mail from mailboxes.

What’s A Bike Ride Without Some Troubles?

Texbiker.net Posted on March 11, 2020 by Rick AnkrumMarch 11, 2020

Trouble getting the ride started today. First the GoPro camera wouldn’t turn. I switched around several batteries and it finally started working. Next I walked the Lynskey R300 bike outside to begin the ride, tried to clip into the pedals and couldn’t. Then it hit me, I had the wrong biking shoes on. Went back inside to get the correct shoes. Finally wheels rolled out the driveway at 11:58 AM. Today’s route: “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch”.

Weather during the bike ride: start 75 (76% humidity, 66.9 dew point), overcast, wind SW 7 mph. Finish 79 (64% humidity, 66.0 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 8 mph. Not quite as warm as yesterday. I wore shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. A few times I felt over dressed but whenever the roads took me into the wind I cooled down.

Today’s ride covered 35.11 miles putting the week’s total at 86.48 miles, 1 Zwift ride and 2 road rides. Month to date I am at 243.67 miles (165.4 miles on the road and 43.1 miles in Zwift rides). My goals for March: 660 miles (75 miles virtual and 585 miles on the road). With 20 days left that leaves 416 miles or 20.8 miles per day. Weather in March bounces around making each riding day important if I am to reach the goal. The next several days through Sunday look favorable for road biking.

Eldorado Tx to San Saba Tx: Stopped in the pecan Capital of the world

Saturday March 7, 2020, 128 miles (206 km) – Total so far: 1,303 miles (2,097 km) Lots of ups and downs today and some crazy crosswinds. Not gonna lie, I’m looking forward to being done with Texas!

San Saba Tx to Rogers Tx: One day closer to La.

Sunday March 8, 2020, 104 miles (167 km) – Total so far: 1,407 miles (2,264 km) More crosswinds, but making progress! Left San Saba this morning with some sore legs from a long day yesterday. Stayed on 190 all day. Good shoulder but very heavy traffic for a Sunday. Met another cyclist in Kileen who is stationed at ft. Hood. He was surprised to see another cyclist on his route and we talked for about an hour while riding. Great guy. 2 more days in Texas!

Rogers Tx to College Station Tx: Wet and treacherous. And furry

Monday March 9, 2020, 93 miles (150 km) – Total so far: 1,500 miles (2,414 km) Started out in Rogers with a steady rain coming down. Making my way slowly to Navasota to get back on the ACA map. Rt.190 went from really enjoyable and lightly travelled to busted shoulder and heavy traffic. I relied on Google to find me an alternate route. I know, I know, bad idea. I ended up on rarely used and under serviced gravel roads (on a road bike with 28mm tires). Eventually found my …

New GCN Jersey and Elemnt Bolt Take Me to Huffman

Texbiker.net Posted on March 10, 2020 by Rick AnkrumMarch 10, 2020

Great to have a bike computer again and not use my phone on today’s bike ride on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. It began at 11:31 AM after I decided the great weather and biking was better than watching the last 20+ kilometers of the Paris Nice road race. To go with the great weather a new jersey was in order, the GCN short sleeve jersey I have had for several weeks waiting on the right bike ride to christen it. No Zwifting today, real roads.

Finding the right place to take the jersey pictures was hard. A room with a mirror generally means a bathroom which is where I ended up taking all three but in two different bathrooms.

The Wahoo Elemnt Bolt computer is smaller than the Elemnt it replaced and when I checked the outfront mount on the Canyon Endurace I was able to move it closer to the handlebar. It was a quick setup yesterday with many of the settings transferring over from the Elemnt in the Wahoo phone app. I remember how hard it was whenever I got a new Garmin computer.

Today’s weather while I rode: start 80 (70% humidity, 69.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 5 mph. Finish 84 (61% humidity, 68.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind calm. No need for a long sleeve thermal jersey or jacket. Shorts, long sleeve jersey, and short sleeve jersey was the attire and I probably could’ve skipped the long sleeve jersey except I wore it more for sun protection than warmth.

I saw several other bicyclists along the route and all are in the video except for one that came around a corner unexpectedly before I could start the GoPro.

The ride ended at 2:02 PM. More great biking weather tomorrow when I will ride the Lynskey R300.
