No Groundhog Here – February 2nd Bike Ride
The wind dropped off today so I did not dress like yesterday. I wore a short sleeve jersey, long sleeve jersey and bike shorts. At time I was chilly but as long as I could get into the sun I warmed up. Starting 2:15 PM the temperature was 74 and when I pulled into my driveway at 4:17 it rested at 75 degrees. Mostly cloudy skies and a calm wind helped make the ride comfortable.
Today I rotated my route to a northerly one riding to Community Drive and then turning back south riding through Valley Ranch and other housing areas west of US59. I did not see any other bicyclists or groundhogs. When I was growing up I used to visit my Grandmother in Gratoit, OH. Not too far out her back door was an embankment where several groundhogs lived in their burrows. During the winter sometimes I would see one of them stick their head out and then go back in. The recent warm weather in southeast Texas makes me think winter is on the way out.
I rode 28.29 miles today at a 15.2 mph average speed. My year to date miles now total 367.94. The slides below summarize other metrics.
