About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

37.68 Miles Today and I Reached My January Goal

Texbiker.net Posted on January 26, 2019 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 26, 2019

Waiting until 12:08 PM to start today’s bike ride I wanted the temperature to get above 60 degrees which it did. I rolled out on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route adding a few extra streets to be sure I rode more than 35.4 miles. That is how many I needed to reach my 300 mile goal for January. With those extra streets I ended up biking 37.68 miles putting me over my goal at 302.3 miles.

Weather dictated my clothing choices: shorts, leg warmers, short sleeve jersey, long sleeve thermal jersey, wind breaker jacket, and full finger gloves. Until I warmed up I felt chilly. As I rode by people working in their yard or walking on the sidewalks they wore a lot less clothes than I did. Partially I am a temperature wimp but wind chill makes a difference too. Weather during the bike ride: Weather: start 65 (60% humidity), partly cloudy, wind E 7 mph. Finish 64 (55% humidity), mostly cloudy, Wind S 12 mph.

Home Weather station at the start and finish of the ride

Home weather ride start
Home weather ride finish

Clouds started getting thicker at the end of the ride and I wondered if I might get rained on before I finished but that didn’t happen. I finished the ride at 2:58 PM.

Sunday’s weather forecast looks favorable for biking so I plan on adding to January mileage.

After a couple of posts about creativity, I’m casting about for a topic more about my main theme of bicycling. So, I thought I might talk about my free visit to a registered dietitian today. But I can summarize that in four words: less sugar, more vegetables. OK, so that topic is deadly boring as cold toast. And toast is something I gave up with all the processed grains last year, to no visible effect whatsoever in terms of weight loss, energy (actually it’s lower), or ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. A ‘gosh-awful mess’ — Head wants a ‘re-auction’ of ASE assets

www.bicycleretailer.com

Sales hearing is continued until next week after Head says $9 million in cash should be included in the sale. A bid by Ideal Bike might get another chance. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (BRAIN) — Head’s bid to buy the assets of Advanced Sports Enterprises has become "problematic," in the words of one of ASE’s attorneys, or "a gosh awful mess," in the words of the bankruptcy judge.

At a sales hearing Tuesday, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Benjamin Kahn did not approve Head’s $21.5 million offer for the assets and told the parties to renegotiate a purchase agreement and come back to him next week with a new offer to consider.

Head’s attorney said the company understood that the purchase included about $9 million in cash that ASE had on hand, in addition to other assets. ASE’s lawyers, as well as those of its …
