Houston cyclist, Lawson Craddock, finished the Tour de France despite a broken shoulder blade and other injuries. He pushed through to raise thousands for the old velodrome where he trained and raced when he was younger. Karbach Brewing Co backed his efforts by donating proceeds from the Weekend Warrior brew to the Greater Houston Cycling Foundation, the nonprofit that …
The manager of Reimer’s Ranch just informed us that they will be doing a prescribed burn there on Wednesday 1/23/2019. They will light the fire in the morning and it will burn until it goes out – probably hours later.
It is looking as if I wont be hitting the racing scene until late March, shoulder is still improving but very minimal gains, this is killing me, but I will leave it in God's hands and be patient

Since my last bike ride on Friday the weather refused to move above my cold temperature threshold until today. I set out on the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route at 11:59 am needing 67 miles to reach my 300 mile goal for January. I knew that distance wasn’t happening so I ended up biking 31.62 miles cutting the short fall to 46 miles. If the January weather cooperates the goal is close and I am better than 2018.
I took these screenshots of the weather at the start and didn’t realize the wind was so strong at the airport. I felt it while biking but I think it was less along the route.
While the temperature was 70 degrees at the start I didn’t go too light on the clothing. I left the leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, and full finger gloves at home. The kit consisted of a long sleeve jersey, shorts, wind breaker jacket, and half finger gloves. With the brisk wind I felt chilly at times but overall was comfortable. Along FM 1960 light rain fell on me several times but I rode out of it or it blew away.
I stopped around the 1.1 mile point and took this photo on the Hunters Ridge Village greenbelt trail.
The jacket was unzipped to get my phone out but during the ride I kept it zipped up.
Nothing unusual about the bike ride. The bridge is still closed on Old Atascocita Road according to the sign at Fairlake Drive and FM 1960. The turnaround in Huffman position me so that wind came from my left side until I made the right turn onto Atascocita Shores Drive when it moved to a tailwind for most the way home.
Fighting the wind produced average watts of 132, 479 max watts. Heart rate averaged 133 with a max of 159.
I finished at 2:31 pm and the wind was even stronger. These screenshots are at the finish.
Another front arrives late tonight and biking weather (for me) goes down hill until Saturday or Sunday.
n Part One of this series, I discussed how the US bicycle business got to where it is today. In this section, we explore what that evolution means for the business mechanics of our industry.
To recap Part One, the history of the US bike business post-WWII can be divided into three phases:
Bike 1.0, roughly 1950-1975, when the industry was dominated by a single brand, Schwinn, creating an era of relative stability at both the supplier and retailer levels.
Bike 2.0, extending from the bike boom and introduction of the mountain bike through the late 1990s/early 2000s. The period was chaotic. Many new brands came and went, and the number of retail stores increased. Most importantly, the market was governed by the phenomenon of Perfect Competition, where no particular brand or brands can accrue enough share or competitive advantage to gain control of the market.
Bike 3.0, starting near the turn of the millennium. The present era features a few dominant players in both the supplier and (per geographic area) retailer segments of the market. Bike 3.0 is characterized by a declining number of traditional retailers (as defined by the NBDA), contraction and consolidation of the supplier segment, and the rise of internet commerce, which impacts all segments.
Product Impact of Bike 3.0
One aspect of the 3.0 era not discussed previously is …
Left the house expecting 40ish miles in The Woodlands, instead we had a great time making it up as we went and rode up to Lake Conroe and meandered our way through the country roads up and down hills and with tough winds for long stretches. A heckofa good time to say the least with Ali, Carlos & Ernesto.

I want to thank everyone for bringing coats this past Saturday. I couldn’t be prouder of y’all helping us get Taco Stop’s coat rack restocked. Our ride was beaten back by the frigid wind so we’ll try again this coming Saturday. We’ll gladly take more coats over, but if you just want to come for the awesome tacos, that’s totally cool.
