…We had stayed in Waxahachie as Italy has a grand population of 1993 and few motels. This is just a partial shot of the line up. Over 1,400 riders showed up almost doubling the population of the town. Yes, parking was very interesting. Get there early, or pretend that going from your parking place to the start line is your warm up for the ride. …

Pics From The North Texas Vintage Bicycle Swap Meet – Garland
by dickdavid        Bike Friendly Richardson

Yesterday, we drove out to Garland, Texas to check out the North Texas Vintage Bicycle Swap Meet – sponsored by Don Johle’s Bike World and Rat Rod Bikes. I love bike swap meets because they’re clearing houses for bike hoarders – my kind of people. Fortunately, my wife always comes along and brings me back to reality. Otherwise, we would have a garage full of bikes and no money to…

Blazing Saddles, the Afterburn wrap-up

BMVBA was very well represent at this years Blazing Saddle, the Afterburn endurance race held at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda.

99% of the trail system was utilized during the race.  The 1% that was taken out was the Palicade and bridge section.  I’m sure everyone was dissappointed that was ommitted from the race loop, NOT!!  With the rains Warda receive on Friday morning the race officials decided it could be a…

A Saturday Evening River Legacy Bike Ride Appalled At Way Too Many Outhouses
Durango Texas        durangotexas.blogspot.com
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been to River Legacy Park, in Arlington, on a Saturday evening.

Usually River Legacy Park is very busy on Saturday evenings. Tonight, that was not the case.

Usually, on Saturday night, there is something going on in the River Legacy Pavilion. I’ve seen many a wedding celebration take place there, and reunions, and…

Honey Tour 2012
LMRA Bicycle Club Message Board
Post by LarryFS

The 2012 Honey Tour started from a new location (Centennial High School) and used slightly modified routes. Cheers to both changes – plenty of parking now and I liked going outbound initially on the routing we came inbound on in prior years. I think almost everything about this ride was excellent. Very good roads and scenery, excellent traffic control at intersections, well-stocked rest stops (they even had honey sticks this year), courteous drivers, enthusiastic and helpful volunteers. Only negative comment I have is the 15 minute interval between staged starts. Wendy and I might have waited for the actual 46-mile route start if it was only going to be…

How to Recover from Muscle Soreness Caused by Intense Exercise
by Dr. Gabe Mirkin        Fitness & Health with Dr. Gabe Mirkin
Muscle soreness should be part of every exercise program. If you don’t exercise intensely enough on one day to have sore muscles on the next, you will not gain maximum fitness and you are also losing out on many of the health benefits of exercise. The benefits of exercise are much greater with intense exercise than with casual exercising.

You must damage your muscles to make them grow and become stronger. When muscles heal, they are stronger than they were before you damaged them. All athletes train by “stressing and recovering”. On one day, they take a hard workout in which they feel their muscles burning. Eight to 24 hours after they finish this intense…

What do cyclists deserve from the rest of us?
Courtney Barry, Local Contributor        www.statesman.com
So the other day, I almost killed a cyclist. It was not out of malice or anger or negligence. I was following the rules of the road as they apply to automobiles and bicyclists. He was not.

As I signaled to turn right driving down South Congress Avenue, following the “yield” sign heading onto Barton Springs Road, he came out of nowhere on my right, speeding out of control down South Congress. Because I was turning, and he was going so fast, he had to…

Concrete BMX park in Cedar Park? Parks Advisory Board Meeting Monday, May 14th at 6:30pm
by Il Pirate        Austin Ridge Riders
Cedar Park riders……
There is going to be a meeting in Cedar Park to discuss a concrete BMX park. This could be an opportunity to get something really big going in Cedar Park. There has been discussion regarding a progressive trail system as well. My wife and I have already scouted close to 20 miles of piece-meal existing trail (game trails, walking trails, jeep trail, etc.) on 4 connected tracts of land. The meeting is Monday May 14th. …

President George W. Bush joins in on W100 Wounded Warrior ride
by AdamNewman        DirtRag
No matter which end of the political spectrum you fall on, you have to respect former President George W. Bush’s ability to tear up a trail. It’s quite possible he was the most physically fit president we’ve ever had.

On April 26-28, 2012, 19 servicemen and women wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan joined President Bush for the W100, a 100 kilometer mountain bike ride in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. As part of the George W. Bush Presidential Center’s Military Service Initiative, the W100 highlights the bravery and sacrifice of the warriors…

Changing Judy Into Madeleine
by Steve A            Dallas Point-to-Point
I’m in no real rush here. Part of the enjoyment of a new bike is changing it into what you wish it to be. In many ways, it is very akin to what James Stewart did when he asked Judy to change into Madeleine.

The Mercier, when it arrived, was both pretty complete, but strangely lacking at the same time. A couple of photos illustrating the situation, follow. Definitely not something you’d get from a bike show. Also not something…
